| New & desperate Hi everyone, I am hoping I have found hope. I have been in a struggle with my weight for so long. I don't drink, smoke, or even drink coffee, but I love, love, love the sugar. Long story short it is killing me literally. I have been up and down on the scale for years. This time I can't seem to go down. I had lap band surgery in 2006 and lost about 60lbs but I have gained all but 10 lbs back. I now have medical issues I blame on my eating habits which are diverticulosis, have had two bad infections since June of 2007 (diverticulitis), I have severe arthritis in my left knee, ankle problems and I feel depressed. There has got to be a way out of this yo yo, weight hell. I feel I can't take it any more. I have motavation. I walk with Leslie Sansone once a day for now at 1 - 2 miles a day. My eating habits are still a mess. I am confused on if I should eat 6xs a day or just 3. grazing gets me into trouble. The less I have to think about food the better. I am not sure what calorie intake I should be on either. My lap band hasn't been a success for me. Everything I eat gets stuck, so I stick to easy to go down foods like sugar. Yeah that goes down great. I have had fills and unfills. I realize it is just a tool. I wanted a miricle. I am starting to see there are no quick fixes and I need to do this myself. I am hoping support from people with the same struggles and solutions can give me the help I need to stick to it. I am sick of my life revolving around sugar. I want to be healthy. Not skinny, thin, but healthy. I am open for suggestions. Thank you. Allie

| Re: New & desperate Welcome to the forum!
I'm like you, that I have a huge sweet tooth. I still have it, but I like to think that I'm in a little more control now.
I know a huge part of it for me was just not having the unhealthy foods in the house. Even now if I "splurge" at the grocery store and buy something yummy but unhealthy, I don't have a lot of will-power around it. But if I don't buy it at all, then I can't possibly eat it.
It sounds like you're fairly active, even with your knee and ankle problems, so as long as it's not causing you pain, that's good.
That sucks that the lapband isn't working for you anymore, and that a lot of food gets stuck. I'm afraid I don't know too much about it.
Would you want to continue with the lapband and use that as a tool, or get it unfilled, and just concentraite on your eating without getting food stuck? (can it even do that? )

Mike | Wow, I have never heard of that. Under water? This is a more accurate way due to anti gravity? Is this a before (right) and after (left)? If it is, remarkable. Can you share with me what your eating habits are like? I have problems filling up at night. I usually do well all day but then at night I am out of ideas. Tonight I had left overs which were fattening. I just put everything from thanksgiving together and heated it up. Then I love cereal so as much as I try to tell myself it is not very fattening I know the kind of cereal I eat is full of sugar. Lucky Charms? lol....... Anyway, you have certainly come a long way Mike. Congrats. Smiles Allie

At the end of the day whether you eat 6 times a day or 3 times a day isn't going to matter that much, what really matters is how many calories you consume compared to how many you burn each day.
You want to lose 100lbs in a year, that's about 2lbs a week. We can help set you up with a calorie deficit of 1000 calories a day for you to achieve your goals. In essence we can calculate how many calories a day you should be eating to achieve your goals....but that will require you to count your calories each day. We just need to know your age, weight, sex, height, and how much and what type of physical activity you get in a given week.

Smiles Allie | I'm sure you'll be able to eat more than 1000 calories per day. When I'm cutting calories, I usually eat between 1000-1200, and some days I find it hard to eat 1000 because I feel like I'm stuffing myself. It all depends on the food you eat

| Re: New & desperate Hi Welcome to the boards you have found the right place coming here.
My brother also had the lap band done also and he is having the same problems as you are. Its really sad. I had the RNY done and I also have a sweet tooth but with the RNY sugar really makes me sick now. So I had to find things I could eat to please that sweet tooth and not get sick. One of the things I came up with is the light and fit yogurt. If you like yogurt its really a great way to go to make that tooth happy lol.
I also found when I went off track and ate a lot of sugar and gained a lot of weight back. To get back on track it took me about 3 days of horrible cravings but then the 4th day I was ok again and didnt even think much about much less have this complussive need to consume sugar. Also sometimes light string cheese will ease that craving also. Its weird but it works for me.
Good luck to you and I look forward to hearing your progress as time passes.

Did your brother have a good weight loss at all with the band? The foods that I should be eating that will fill me up get stuck and make me feel sick so I can't eat much of them but the sweets? Well, because of the high fat content and the gue they go down easy and fill me up. I am going to have my band drained. I have had it. I wish I had gotten the RNY. I may be too late because now I have complications to my intestines called diverticulosis which is a condition of pockets in the intestines and things get caught up in the pockets and cause infection which I have had twice since June. Horific pain and agony. Anyway, the nurse at the Bariatric center said it may not be a good idea with intestinal problems to get the RNY. I feel stuck, hopeless. I feel like I have an endless pit that won't fill up with out the band but with it I can't eat things that are good for me. Catch 22 for sure. My cravings have gotten out of control. How long have you had the RNY? How much weight did you lose with it? I like that part about the sugar causing dumping. Seems like I need to have severe consequences to keep it out of my mouth. Well, take care.
Smile Allie

My brother to start with dropped a lot of weight but for a while now he has done nothing but gain. He has appt to see the surgeon again and see if they wont do the RNY for him. I try to get him to come to the broads all the time because I think Mike and OD as well as others would make a big difference in how he feels, but he always tells me he doesnt have enough time. Which is true enough. But he should make time for his weight problems but I havent given up on him.
I have had the RNY dont in 99 and lost from 427 to 270 then went back to 330 before I figured out I had to change my lifestyle eating patterns. I went and got tested to see if I had stretched my tummy out. And found that I didnt I was gaining because I was grazing all day long. I was stuffing things in my mouth all day.
After that I got it figured out. I had started losing about a year and a half or so ago and now I am down to 215. And I seem to be stuck I will go up or down a lb or two.
I dont have the dumping problem that a lot of people have with this because of the irratable bowel that I have. But because of that the sugar will make me vomit. Along with the dumping it causes hair loss ect.... there are a lot more things that happen to your body with the RNY then the band.
Losing is hard work and thats all there is to it. We have to find the triggers for why we over eat and stop them.

Smiles Allie | As long as you keep up that walking program, ideally 2 miles a day, you can eat around 1400 calories a day and you should be able to drop between 1.5-2lbs a week....should get you right around your goal weight by you rgoal date.
1400 isn't as little as you think....we can also offer you a lot of tips to keep you from feeling hungry.
Here are a few good tips to get you going....... http://www.obesitydiscussion.com/for...-add-3689.html
If you want to get really serious I can break it down further into protein/carbs/fat, which will help you not only feel more full, but also help you on your quest.
