| New Hi, I am new to this forum. I weigh more now than I have ever weighed and it scares me. I 'm through with "diets" and will now follow a low calorie, low fat, low carb "eating plan". Basically, that means I plan to eat more healthy meals and no junk, and walk. I see that this website can help me with questions and guide me.
I'm gluten intolerant and pre-diabetic, so I'm already limited to what I can eat. Any advice on this is welcome.
Pam

Pam | Good idea ditching the diets! I think you have a great grasp of what you need to do to lose weight! At the end of the day you just need to make sure you're burning more calories than you are consuming, and we can help you figure that out! We can help you figure out what to eat as well. Welcome!
Welcome to the site!

Some changes in your eating habits and likely exercise in conjunction with one another should do the trick. If you're willing to commit there is no reason why this can't happen. If you'd like we can help you figure out how much you need to eat each day to achieve your goals.

I hope to be able to exercise at least 3x weekly, maybe more as my energy level goes up. I plan to start out walking since I have been sedentary for so long. I do have a treadmill, exercise bike, weights etc...
I am heaviest in the hips and thighs. I had a knock-out hourglass figure when I was a teenager. I don't expect to get that back but would like to have some flattering curves without major bumps! Thanks for your help!

Are you accusing me of being demanding?
Based on your stats/activity level, your body is going to burn about 2440 calories a day on its own.
I think for starters we should shoot for a 1440 calorie per day consumption rate for you; that will allow you to lose roughly 2lbs a week after you get going for a bit.
To take it down to the macronutrient level, you should shoot for roughly each day:
115g Protein= 460 caloires
75g Carbs= 300 calories
75g Fat= 675 calories
That will bring you to about 1435 calories a day, right around where you need to be to lose 2lbs a week!!
It's important to keep track of what you eat each day so you can not only see what is working for you, but make sure you're staying close to your eating goals. This isn't an exact science, but try to come close. If you eat 1535 calories one day, make up for it with 1335 calories another day, etc.
Hope this helps.

Thanks You, demanding, well from what I've read..... Would it make a big difference to use less calories or is the daily calories important? To keep losing, would you then decrease the calories since your body will adjust to the amount your currently use?

Give your body a chance to adjust to this calorie drop, and if you feel you can handle it, then sure you can drop it even more. One of the big mistakes a lot of people make is from making too big of a change too fast.

adjusting calories over time makes sense since this calculation is based off of the current amount of calories your body burns

I think stress has a lot to do with it. I'm up for a new position and as soon as I knew that, I went off track. Hopefully I will know the answer this week.

Have you considered a little exercise to get rid of the stress? How about writing down on paper what you are supposed to eat for the day ahead of time and that way if it's on paper in front of you, maybe you'll be more likely to follow it?
