| I am a food addict Hi my name is Monica and I am struggling with fast food addiction. Everytime I try to eat healthy I have these extreme cravings for Mcdonald's, Subway, Pizza, wings, and other fastfoods. I have tried so many times to break this habit but I can't seem to get ahead. If I could lose the first ten pounds I know that I could keep it up but I can't even lose one pound. I'm trying the slimfast diet but I can't stay on it. |

| Re: I am a food addict You could try avoiding those places. Drive a different route so you dont go by them. And dont not let yourself have something you really are craving just eat less of it and before you eat anything drink a BIG glass of water. Or maybe if you REALLY just gotta have it walk there instead of drive. That way you burn calories getting there and then going back home and you wont feel as guilty for eating it.

| Re: I am a food addict Thanks for the advice. I know that I can do it its just going to take persistance and very hard work. I have to start going to the gym and taking the weight control softgels that I used to take. They help control hunger. My goal is to lose 173 pounds. Its very hard being this big. I weigh 308lbs. I want to get down to 135 pounds. I have a very long way to go but I can't give up just because I fail a couple of times. Being successful takes alot of effort. I am going to try the slimfast again today and go to the gym to workout. If I can't do this by the end of next week, i'm going to see about going to a weightloss program. But the problem with that is that I don't know if i'm big enough for them to take me. My mom told me that I have to be morbidly obese to go into a weightloss facility. I only hope and pray that is not the case. But before it comes to that i'm going to keep trying because I don't want to gain anymore weight. Its hard being fat and not being able to do things or wear clothes that I want to. I have so many clothes that I haven't thrown out because I am hanging on to the hope of wearing them one day. It will happen. It took time for me to gain all this weight, so its going to take time for me to lose it. Its not going to come off overnight. I can't trust in some magic diet pill to lose it either. Hard work and excersise is what its going to take. |

| Re: I am a food addict Exactly Hard work and determination is what it takes. But alot of support helps too. My family wants to be supportive but I think I drive them a little nutty talking about weight loss and exercise and food that is good to eat and bad to eat. But If I dont think about it all the time I'm afraid I'll slip back into my old habits. I've only been on this journey 6 months. And even though it seems like a long time it really isnt. I mean I developed my bad habits over a matter of years not months. So I figure it will probably be a few years before the bad habits are forever gone and the good habits here to stay. Just remember that anytime you need support we are here. And we all know how hard it can be.

| Re: I am a food addict Something to consider is finding a way to get to the root cause of your desire to eat the junk foods. Persistence and determination is a big part of it, but there must be something else causing the desire to eat. I'm far from a professional in this area, but I think if you explored this from the inside, it may help with the problem. It can be a struggle and I applaud you for making an effort. Never lose hope and best of luck to you. |

Have you ever watched the movie supersize me? If you haven't, I suggest you do so.
Here's my motivation not to eat that crap:

5lbs of fat:
Seriously? That stuff will eventually kill you. Is it worth it?

| Re: I am a food addict Monica, The reasoning, if there is one..that you feel addicted to those places..is because they put chemicals (so to speak) into your food to make you crave them even more, so you spend more money. For example, McDonald's French Fries have long been a favorite for kids and adults alike..but a one point in time..they had (sorry don't remember the exact name)___in them. And we wonder why as a country we keep getting fatter and fatter. But don't beat yourself up about going to those places..hey you're only human. And even I still today get a craving for those same French Fries. Just take it a day, hour, or minute at a time. I have faith that you can do it.

| Re: I am a food addict monica, all of us that are over weight struggle with food addiction, that is why we are over weight. We may not all eat at fast food resturants, but we all over eat. You said you could not loose any weight, i am trying a 1200 calorie a day diet, 20 fat grams and keeping my sodium under 2000 grams a day. This is really helping me to loose weight, no it isn't easy but I have lost 25 pds, since may. I still have alot to go, but this is the only diet that has ever helped me. Hope it helps you, please give it a try.

| Re: I am a food addict I'm with you here. I stepped on the scale last week, and topped 301. It's the most I've ever weighed.
I tried slim fast, but I like the actual act of eating. I just need to work very hard on what it is that I am eating. I'm finding that I get, um, "intestinal difficulties"? when I eat too many carbs like breads. It might be the wheat or gluten. I had a little success on the South Beach diet a couple of years ago, but then my depression got the better of me, and I reverted to my old habits of eating for comfort.
I know I have to change my relationship to food. It's so hard. That is one of the reasons I'm here. It's nice to interact with others that understand. Quote:

| Re: I am a food addict I have learned not to look at the actual weight I want to get down to. Just start setting goals for 10 pds, at a time. This seems to help me, and I don't get so discouraged. I am 5'2 my considered weight is about 117. But that is not the weight I am looking at anymore. I am 42 years old and weigh 205 I just want to feel healty and better about my self. I have set my goal weight at 160, and put the scales away. You don't need any futher discouragement, only weigh once a week or once a month. I started out on my journey to weightloss on may the 13th, this was my birthday present to my self. You cannot loose weight for anyone but yourself.. And remember even though it seems like the weight came on overnight, it will not come off that way. Just take it one day at a time. If you mess up one day, don't beat yourself up. We have all failed, just start over the next day. And always remember you have to do this for you, not every one else. I am on the same journey that you are, I started out 234, now I am 205. I too have alot to loose, but I look at it like this the weight may be comming off slower than I would like, but at least I havn't gained and now I am really trying. Hope this helps, and gives you encouragement.
