Sainsbury's initiative to tackle obesity

Sainsbury's initiative to tackle obesity
11 September 2006

Sainsbury's is to back a new initiative this week in order to help tackle the issue of childhood obesity. Justin King, Sainsbury's chief executive, will take part in the government's 'Small Change, Big Difference' initiative which is designed to encourage small behavioural changes in order to support a healthier lifestyle. Commenting on the initiative, Justin King stated,

"Sainsbury's has always been at the forefront of health and nutrition issues and we created this event to contribute to the government's 'Small Change, Big Difference' campaign. We're delighted that parents and experts are attending the event and believe we have the opportunity to take action and make a difference."

'Responsible Retailing' is only one of the emerging issues likely to shape the UK food and grocery sector going forward into 2007. IGD's forthcoming publication, UK Grocery Retailing, provides a wide-ranging review of these issues and is an invaluable tool for those who are starting to formulate their business plans for 2007.
