New Zealand Childhood Obesity- Junk Food Ad Ban sought by obesity group

May 25, 2007
Obesity groups are applauding a new $6 million advertising campaign promoting healthy diets for children, but wants more from the government.
The government has launched the Feeding our Futures campaign which offers tips to encourage healthy lifestyles.
Leigh Sturgiss from Obesity Action Coalition says the campaign provides a good platform for talking about children's nutrition but she wants a total ban on the advertising of junk food. She says the voluntary advertising code announced last week does not go far enough.
The new ad campaign suggests parents encourage children to help with food preparation, promotes families eating together and suggests water and milk are offered to children instead of sugar-filled drinks
