Guess that's not what lots of companies want to hear it sucks twice as much energy to stay late night as it does to do the same thing during the day, this was also told to me by my doctors, a Chinese herbal practitioner couple, I choose to believe because they cured my stomach ulcers and amenorrhea, and they told me what caused my skin alergy (and fixed it, of course, they just sussed it in the process of curing the stomach ulcers), which disturbed me for 4 years and the best skin specialist in town couldn't do anything. So I chose to believe them when they told me not to stay late. That makes all the differences of my health.
We pay our workers about 10% more when they work the nightshift....not that it compensates them enough IMO, but every bit helps. I couldn't fathom working a nightshift.

at least you being a respectful and honest man, and under the current economic environment would be lucky enough for many people to stay in a job...

Not even every company compensate for night shifts...

Re: Weight Loss Tips - Starting off? Here's my tips, add yours!!!

I used to be a binge eater. I used to try and starve myself to lose weight really fast and then it would be so hard I would give up and go buy a ton of food and eat till I felt sick. Over the last few years I eat foods that I crave everyday so I'm not tempted to binge. I love, love peanut butter so now I eat a tablespoon of peanut butter everyday with breakfast and that has completely taken away my cravings for it, therefore reducing the urge to binge on it.

I've also outlined some more tips on my website: fitnutforever.com.

Do you have a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf near you? Their pomegranate blueberry tea is pretty good and reasonably priced

Re: Weight Loss Tips - Starting off? Here's my tips, add yours!!!

Here are some of the things that have been helping me:

1) Set a min calorie goal, do not go under it. I know that sounds a bit counterintuitive, but I feel like not going below my min calories (1800) has been just as important for me as my max calorie goal.

2) Don't skip a meal. If I'm already at my max calories after lunch, I'll go a bit over and have a light dinner. I also make sure not to skip the other 2 meals. Though most days I tend to eat 4 meals.

3) Cereal, ok probably not a universal diet tip. But snacking on cereal is how I keep myself from snacking on bad stuff. Fruits and veggies work too, but cereal just has that snack food consistency. I probably go through 2 boxes of cheerios a week.

4) Oral hygiene. That probably sounds silly, and it probably doesn't help. But I got obsessive about tooth care (brushing/flossing) shortly before I started my weight loss efforts. I might just be giving it more emphasis than it deserves because of the time correlation. But I can't count the number of times when it's after dinner and I'm feeling like a binge and I don't because I don't feel like going through my 10 minute tooth routine a second time that night. Nope after the choppers are clean it's water or nothing until the next morning. Who knows maybe I just triggered some sort of obsessiveness that has so far served me well in my weight loss efforts.

I would say those 4 things plus calorie counting were what got me started and have kept me going for quite a long time.

May sound silly, but I know where you're coming from. I'll brush my teeth in the evening and that's pretty much it for me til morning. NOTHING in my house tastes good when mixed with minty toothpaste.

Matt I have to completely agree with you on the Oral Hygiene I thought it was just me lol but I will do the same thing in the evenings and once I brush the teeth and all that I make sure I only have water until the next morning. Great advice and it works well for me.

Re: Weight Loss Tips - Starting off? Here's my tips, add yours!!!

I really like this thread, and I want to bring it back!

Here's my tips for a healthy mind and a healthy body:

~ If you just can’t get on track, try seeing a doctor. Maybe he or she can recommend a diet for you, or some medication. There are tons of different prescriptions out there than can help you diet. If one doesn’t work for you, try another. Don’t give up because of one bad experience.

~ If you’re not into trying medications, try reading some self improvement books. There are a lot of authors out there who have gone through the same thing you are going through, and it’s just a matter of finding the right author that you can connect to. Plan to read a lot before you find the right one. Not a reader? Try some books on tape!

~ Not into medications or self-help books? Try seeing a therapist. They can really make a difference in your life. They can help you figure out why you overeat and how to overcome it. If you like groups of people more than one-on-one sessions, join a support group. Overeaters Anonymous can be a great source of support too.

~ Can’t stand groups of people or the thought of seeing a therapist? Try joining an online support group. You type out all your thoughts and feelings, you never have to come face-to-face with anyone, and you don’t even have to give out your real name.

~ If you’re not into any of the above recommendations, try to look within. How badly do you want to lose this weight? Bad enough to try pills even though you detest prescription medication? Bad enough to overcome your shyness and join a support group? Bad enough to start reading books when you can’t bring yourself to try pills or support groups? Ask yourself and make a choice: either continue being overweight and miserable, or try to do something about it.

Re: Weight Loss Tips - Starting off? Here's my tips, add yours!!!

There really are some fantastic tips here, some things I didn't even think of. Matt, that's great advice about cleaning your teeth, I remember someone telling me that through cleaning your teeth, you are telling your body that you are going to bed and thus you don't need to eat anymore.

If I have a tip, it's to start cooking things yourself. It's a lot more satisfying than getting food delivered to you and also expands your skills (still no idea how to make breaded mushrooms as I can't get the breadcrumbs to stick properly!).

I also drink freshly squeezed orange juice when I get hunger pangs and it does curb those cravings.

All the best guys.
