| One way to stay motivated to lose weight
The secret to staying motivated is not just having a goal like losing weight , but identifying a strong “emotional why” - why you want the goal. It’s the purpose behind the goal that will get you out of bed every morning.
So let me ask you, “What are YOUR reasons for wanting to lose weight ?” Is it your health,? Do you want more respect from your friends? Do you want to attract the opposite sex? Is it for a sense of accomplishment? Is it to define your identity? Is it to test your body’s limits? Is it to be an example to loved ones? Instead of just writing your goal of losing weight, write “Lose weight to increase my confidence and to impress my friend ”
Sure, I know this is superficial but these are emotional reasons and people take action from emotion because it’s a feeling, and feelings make you move.
Logical reasons such as, “Lose weight to improve my health” are not as powerful as emotional ones like, “Lose weight to be able to backpack through Europe for two months with my grandchildren and set an positive example for my youngest grandchild struggling with her weight.”
So ask yourself these two questions as you write your goals:
1. What is the number one emotional benefit in reaching my goals?
2. Why is this emotional benefit important to me?
If you’re having trouble being honest with these questions think of someone you know who is living a life that you desire. Think of someone you know personally that has achieved a certain lifestyle, reputation,
image and health that you admire and look up to. Who is the role model to you that you want to be to others? Visualize what this person is doing right now when you lack motivation

Where exactly are you cutting and pasting this from?
P.S. - Why not head over to the Introduce Yourself thread and tell us a bit about yourself. So far all of your posts are good / well-written, but they do read a bit like an excerpt from a self-help dieting/weight loss manual. Perhaps if we knew who you were and where you were coming from, it would feel a little more natural and less like preaching from the mount.

Yeah, losing weight to impress a friend is a LOT more motivating than wanting a long healthy life... because we're all that superficial! Thanks again, guru.

I found that really helpful, I wasn't having such a great day today and I couldn't figure out why I've lost most of my motivation that was there weeks ago .... but some of those reasons are really important to me. Guess i'm superficial too

CallieRobin, it's great if some of this advice helped you! This poster had a bit of a pattern of pasting in advice from other sources and then disappearing so we were getting annoyed with his tone, plus he was spamming. But finding the motivation that works for you is important, whatever that is!
Hollandoforange, you don't have your stats listed but haven't you already gotten less heavy and less unhealthy? You should be proud of yourself, and keep up the good work!

When I decided to lose weight it was because of my bad knees. I knew the weight on me was not helping them any.
So I web surfed and found this site and came and became a member of it and this site has been my biggest motivation. I am here for most everyday for over a year now and also am down alot of pounds to thanks to this site and all the friends I have made it.

I can see why you don't care for this poster but there is some good advice in there. I will start telling myself "I want to feel confident" instead of "I don't want to be fat anymore!". Negative self talk is my enemy!

Confidence + positive thinking are a very powerful tool! For anyone that hasn't watched "The Secret" I highly recommend it!
