| Truffles, Healthy Chocolate Candy [P.S. to Chrisydj question]
Forgot something wonderful. On p. 131 of the book is a recipe for zero-guilt chocolate candy. Make it, consider it...a vitamin pill. It's actually better than most vitamin pills with all those antioxidants -- plus, again, cocoa helps you go longer without feeling hungry.
You can also make chocolate truffles with that recipe. Mix it like above, use a soup spoon or melon baller to make 1" almost-balls, then roll them around on a platter sprinkled with equal amounts of cocoa & splenda. You...won't...believe how delicious these truffles are. Or that they're zero guilt & super healthy.
Talk about win-win!! You'll faint, these are so delicious...AND good for you!
Each truffle has maybe 30 calories.

| Re: Truffles, Healthy Chocolate Candy Sounds like a good recipe but use Stevia in place of Splenda. Splenda is a chemically made sweetener. It is poisonous and makes you fat. The problem is that it’s unnatural, artificial, and these man made artificial sweeteners do in fact increase your appetite, make you depressed, cause all types of symptoms including migraine headaches, PMS, fibromyalgia, allergies, and most importantly make you fat. Stevia is a herb that has been used for over 20 years in Japan and Brazil. Not only does Stevia taste great but it also doesn’t inhibit thermogenesis, lead to insulin resistance or diabetes. Stevia also lowers blood pressure. You can get it at health food stores. Thanks |

The authors are a cardiologist consultant for the CT. Dept of Health. His wife is a nutritionist and heart-smart cook.
" What about Stevia? Another controversy. The FDA has refused to approve stevia because of its possible cancer-causing effects. Pro-stevians argue that it’s been used by South American natives for centuries, without mentioning how long those people lived (not counting battles, snakes bites, animal attacks, & infectious disease). Also, were any long-term studies & control group studies done on them? Cancer can take years to develop, as with smoking. Meanwhile Stevia’s being as aggressively marketed as High Fructose Corn Syrup."
