| sabotaged by the Super Bowl
So was anybody else like me and pressured to eat crap on the Super Bowl?
I'm in a difficult situation, my dad likes to cook, but he hates me being fat, so he's constantly on me about my weight, but pressures me to eat his food and leftovers.
So on Super Bowl Sunday, I ended up being up about 3 lbs or so, had chili cream cheese dip, port chops, kielbasa, and potato salad, all totally about 5,000 calories, which seems like a huge amount, but it isn't. That's just the reality when you're honest and run the numbers. What we think of as the average ideal American meat and potatoes meal, esp. with 2nds runs about a day and a half's worth of RDA.
Anybody else have to deal with anything similar?
I hate it because I've been fighting weight my entire life, so my metabolism is pretty screwed. For the most part, if I eat a normal diet, I gain an average of 3 lbs a day, and I maintain on 1500 calories a day, as a rule.

I had some of that chili cream cheese dip and chips not good for me. There were hot wings and fresh french fries (regular and sweet potato). Not sure what damage I did but I enjoyed myself. I brought some veggies and ate my share of those. I don't think I did all that bad. I knew I would indulge some and had a light breakfast beforehand. Did not have "lunch" because I was on the road w/my parents for a bit. Will see what the damage was come Thursday. Maybe I will have lost it by then.
Being in a catch 22 position that you are in does not make it much easier, huh? They love you so they feed you. They love you so they worry about your weight. You have certainly come a long way. Don't allow one day to ruin it. Just dust yourself off and get to the next day. Exercise a little more to work it off. You'll get it off.

I was at a large party with huge amounts of food everyone prepared. The host tried getting me to eat everything from pizza rolls to fresh baked cookies to a very creamy unhealthy soup, you name it.
I resisted. I ended up snacking on plain carrots, plain celery, orange slices, and had no guilt indulging in a a 22oz beer and 2 shots of tequila. Did I get a ribbing from the host and a few of my buddies who were there? For sure. Am I the only one who now doesn't have an extra pound or two to work off? Absolutely.

Family is hard...they want you to be thin and healthy...but then they sabotage your efforts. Mostly it's not intentional...although I've heard of some rather malicious stories...
Have you asked your Dad why he does that? The answer might be interesting...

I had some chips and salsa but was up maybe .5 lbs, all of it water as it disappeared the following day. I had dinner at my BF's parents' house and his mom set out chips and salsa while dinner was cooking. Evil temptress!
One thing I've discovered is that my family will nibble and snack their way through the Olympics, the Super Bowl, etc. I don't watch those things with my family anymore at all. I stay home by myself and watch them. That way I don't have to deal with those fatty snacks right there under my nose. If there are tortilla chips in front of me, I'll eat them. All of them. So I don't even keep them in my house.

Way to go OD!!!!
Well we were asked to go to a Super Bowl party that was hosted by a few of my sons football coaches......at a restaurant/lounge, they were having spanish foods as well as your normal football foods like, buffalo wings, cheesy chili dips, chips, ect. But I said "No Thanks"
I did not want to put myself in that situation. I'm also smokefree and there was going to be drinking there. I want to smoke when I drink.....not sure why but drinking makes me want a ciggy. So I figured it was a dangerous place to be for my weightloss as well as my smoking.
We stayed home.....I made a nice dinner then we enjoyed the game with our kids and snacks were apples for the adults popcorn for the kids.

For me it was really easy to resist eating bad over the Superbowl........Because I live in Australia where we don't watch it!!! lol. So there is a solution. Next superbowl, if you think you will be tempted, just come here for that weekend!!

I think it's perfectly okay to splurge on fun or special occasions. Most people will feel too deprived if they don't have a cheat day every once in a while. Plus it allows u to fully enjoy the event instead of focusing on what you can't eat.

Next year the Super Bowl is here in North Texas. I will be a mean slim machine and I will eat cheesy chili dip (again)! __________________ Began my Weight Watchers journey Oct. 28, 2009 Best Wishes To All! I have to agree with Shea I would feel so deprived if I didn't have a "cheat" day or something every now and then. Of course lately I had been having way to much sweets and I'm proud to say I have stopped that. I now have been having 1 tiny cup of the Jello fat free mousse temptations it's only 60 calories and very nice and chocolate so it works a lot better then the slices of cake I had been having. I'm very proud with how well I've done on resisting the temptation of having cake. I did have cake super bowl nite though but since I haven't had any.

My 250 calories of beer and 150 calories of tequila was a mini-splurge for me. I personally would rather have more moderate mini-splurges than one big one once in a while. I think that helps keep me sane a little better. BUT! Everyone is different. Quote:

Yeah I like to mini-splurge as well. In fact, I don't really follow sports or anything, this feast thing wasn't my idea. At the moment, I can't really control the food available to me, and my dad has put dual pressures on me to lose weight and lose it fast, and also feeding fattening foods whenever he finds the opportunity. It's a psychological funfair if I refuse.
Anyway, thanks everyone.

I had a good weekend. On Saturday I did a huge hike, and ate around 2000 calories. Since the hike was more than 10 miles I had tons to burn on Sunday. And I didn't get too crazy anyway only about 3000 cals on superbowl day.
I agree with the general sentiment here though. On days like Superbowl Sunday it's alright to cheat. Most of us didn't gain our weight by eating sensibly every day but the holidays.

My problem is I keep falling for his tricks. The sabotaging set-ups involving food. Mostly because I rather enjoy having a roof over my head, and also because my health is giving me problems, which makes job prospects difficult right now.

Sorry he's so manipulative. Nothing you can do then...just ignore him the best you can and try not to aggrevate him too much (to keep the peace, and stress, down)...
And try and move out as soon as you can!

in the end you control what goes into your mouth, just tell him no thanks " i 'm not hungery for that" and eat something healthy, don't make a big deal about it, just act like your eating it cuz you want to and go about as you normally do! It sucks you have to put up with a jerk, but like I said you control what goes into your mouth!

Pressure to eat a certain way can be intense if you're hanging around the wrong people, but ultimately you are 100% in control of what goes into your mouth.
