| New to all of this! Hey Everyone,
So after being unhappy with myself and being overweight all of my life I realized that I am the only one that can change it, and become healthy. Just wanted to say hello to all, and that my challenge (and oh what a challenge!!!) has begun. I've lost 23 lbs thus far by just eating healthy and exercising 25-45 minutes a day. An absolute 360 from my old life. I've been reading a lot on this forum, and I wanted to thank everyone for their valuable information!!! .gif)

Did you just change the type of food you eat or the amount too? What kind of exercise are you doing? Congrats on the weight loss so far!

| Re: New to all of this! Thank you!!! I pretty much changed everything. I cut out using oil (frying), butter, cheese (used a ton of that). I am calorie counting for sure. I'm keeping it under 1500 calories a day. 3 meals a day, because that's what my livelihood allows. Lots of meals that are high in protein to keep me from wanting to take a bite out of my arm (Special K with Protein/ Skim Milk; 2 slices of whole wheat with turkey; boneless marinated chicken breast with a baked potato; Strawberries for desert ). I'm an extremely picky eater (why I was overweight in the first place) who does not eat any veggies and most fruits. So I had to put together a meal plan that limited in calories and fat. The good news is, I don't like any carbonated drinks (all I have ever drank was water). For exercise I've been doing 15 min's of the Elliptical (worked myself up from 4 min's), and bench press/lap pull down every other day with some light dumbbell exercises. I definitely got into the routine, it's a matter of not breaking it now.

| Re: New to all of this! Fantastic job! When I first started using our NordicTrak, I just about passed-out after my first session. Now I can do a respectable 25 minutes, but it took a while to get there. I was reading over what you eat and I think I'll try to get my diet onto the healthy track. Currently, I'm doing the exercise thing, but I know my diet isn't very healthy. I keep it to about 1500 calories a day, but my diet isn't as balanced as it should be. This is where I need assistance. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? | Wow, you were the same exact weight as me! Great job for you as well!!! What seams to be working for me is I plan out a menu, so there is no uncertainty about what I am going to eat (no worry to eat something unhealthy then). The fact that I am picky (and tried to overcome that, but just couldn't) made it much more difficult. But I made a list of foods that I like, and then extracted the ones that were high in protein and low in fat. The list of healthy things that I liked was limited, so I expanded on them. For example; I love chicken, which I pretty much eat every night (I mix in fish and pork once and a while), so I just found 5 different ways to marinate it (not using oils, butter, or cheeses) to keep myself from getting completely bored. Hope this helps! I'm just a beginner, so this is a learning process for me as well.
The struggles I am having is boredom with the Elliptical (so I put it in front of my TV), and the fact that I used food as a way to cope with stress. I get really hungry from the time I eat dinner to the time I go to sleep (1-3 AM due to work). I make sure I eat a dinner high in protein so it last long as possible (not enough though). Any suggestions for these struggles?

Any suggestions for these struggles? | Thanks for the advice on the menus. I love basically any meat and I can tolerate most veggies. I usually bake the chicken (I have a great chicken with rice recipe) and then dip it in mashed potatoes (small portions of course). One thing I also do with chicken is marinate it in a rosemary vinegar that I make. It really gives it a nice flavor. What I do when I work out, either on the Total Gym or my NordicTrak is I listen to my iPod. I put on some Hard Rock and any other type of music that has a fast beat. It's not that big of a problem when I'm on the TotalGym, but when I'm on the NordicTrak...yeah, it's BORING! I find my imagination starts to run away with me. So, the music helps. As for the munchies, I usually eat some pistachios or some smoked almonds. Working on my memory, I believe that 20-25 of them is equal to 170 calories and on top of that they're good for you. Or, you can try some very tasty celery (yum). Although I have to put peanutbutter on it, so that kind of defeats the purpose. Popcorn might help. Thats what I use for a mid-day snack. A whole bag is about 220 calories and it lasts a long time. If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know. Have a great evening.

| Re: New to all of this! Thank you!!! I haven't had one snack besides Strawberries in a month. I'm dreadfully afraid to cheat once, because I am worried it will bring me back to my old ways. One of my best friends who lost 120 lbs used to have a cheat day once a week. Anyone else do something like this???
