I used to like the Lean Cuisine meals but got to noticing how much sodium is in most of them so I stopped eating them because I've really been trying to watch how much sodium I have in a day and I've noticed staying under what is recommended really seems to help. I've tried to cut as much processed foods as I can out of my diet and been trying to replace them with fresh fruits and veggies. I read your blog and it sounds like you're off to a great start keep up the good work.

I eat Lean Cuisines and love them! It helps me keep on track. I know there is alot of sodium but I only eat them once a day for lunch.

You'll be OK having them once a day, though I would try to avoid eating a lot more sodium elsewhere on top of that! How many calories you shooting for per day?

Or is it? | Actually, it could be if you go too much under your target too often. From what I have read here and elsewhere, an excessive drop in calories from your BMR can trigger your body into some kind of metabolic emergency where it figures out that it's not getting nearly as much as it wants. The end result (as I understand it - bear in mind I'm a clueless noob) is that you adapt to the lower amount by slowing down your metabolism, and the lower amount becomes your new BMR. So if normally 1800 allows you to lose weight and suddenly your body adjusts to 1000, you would (in theory) need to take in less than 1000 to continue losing weight.
Did I get that right, experts?

At the risk of calling myself an expert, you're right, pretty much! The "starvation response" doesn't seem to be completely predictable, but from what I've read it will happen after more than 3 days in a row at less than 1200 calories or so for men, 1000 for women. I think those calories are for people in general so with an exercise routine you might want to eat more than that. I would assume the actual calorie level is different for different people. You can raise your BMR back up by gradually eating more until you're body's used to it again, but in the meantime you'll gain back a lot of what you lost so it's not really worth it to go lower than those amounts. Plus it's tough to get good nutrition on less calories than those. So you're probably fine going down as low as 1000 calories once in a while, but if you do it on a regular basis (like 3 days within a week or so) you risk slowing your metabolism.
1800 sounds reasonable to me, and you're losing quickly enough there's no reason to go lower than that. Also, Alli blocks some fat absorption so you are probably not getting as many calories from your food as someone not taking Alli. I bet they know what they're talking about suggesting 1800!

As you lose more you may need to adjust downward to keep the weight loss pace where you want it, but if you're feeling good right now at 1800, and getting good results like these, I'd roll with it!
