| Howdy Everyone I have always had ups and downs with weight problems. When I was a kid I was chubby, then in Jr. High I lost weight and kept most off till I was 22. But when I settled down and became a husband and father, I put on weight quickly, so quick I didn't even notice for a while. I would try different diets and never was able to stick with them. In my early thirties I started workingout and doing different diets but none seem to work, never had anyone in the same boat with me. I have some friends that I workout with so I have no problems in that department just have to have some help with the weight loss and eating habbits.

Congrats on becoming a husband and father! Eating habits are definitely something we can help with! I'm willing to bet if we can take care of your eating habits the weight will come flying off!!!
Could you give us an idea of what your eating habits are like on an average day? I'd be curious to see what you're starting from.

I started eating small meals throughout the day, I eat a muscle milk bar in the morning along with apple juice, then at 9 am I eat an ostrich stick, then at 11 am I eat half a muscle milk bar then again at 1 pm I eat the other half then around 3 I eat another ostrich stick, then at 5 lift weights come home and walk for 2 miles, then find something healthy for dinner. This is a beginning as far as diet goes the excercise I have been doing for awhile.

Ostrich on a stick? I've only ever had ostrich burgers before. Yummy?
It doesn't seem like you're eating very much, but you're not getting weight loss results? Maybe you're not eating enough? Have you tried counting your calories?

Ostrich sticks are like beef sticks only better and not as greasy. I try to keep calories down around 1200. My main problem is that when a weekend comes or a family outing, I can't seem to control myself and afterwards I feel guilty. Part of my problem is embarrasment of having to diet, I don't want everyone to know and make comments to me about it, I have had that happen when A guy at work found out I was doing one of the food order weight programs.

Your body may be not getting enough calories and is storing everything it can, thus no weight loss.
I, as a 5'6 female @135 lbs burn about 1450 a day without exercise. I bet you burn at least 500 calories more per day.
Try using a BMR calculator to see how much your body burns a day without exercise. I like this one: BMR Calculator
I can understand not wanting to tell everyone you're on a diet. I'm a firm believer that diets don't work, only lifestyle changes do. You may loose all the weight you want on a diet, but you won't keep it off unless you continue the healthy eating and exercise. When people would comment to me about not eating a certain thing, instead of saying I was on a diet, or trying to loose weight, I'd always say "I'm trying to eat healthier". I don't know if that would work for you as well.
The biggest thing I've had people comment to me about is that I don't drink anymore. I always say "Well, it's expensive", which seems to satisfy people, and I don't have to say that the real reason I don't anymore is because it was reeking havoc on my weight loss attempts
We all slip up with the healthy eating. If I slip up, I try to work a little harder at the gym the next day, but don't beat yourself up about it. Just don't write the day off, get back on the horse ASAP

So all you're eating are 2 muscle milk bars a day, 2 ostrich stick bars, and then dinner? Your calorie levels like Audrey said do seem a bit low for someone of your stature who is also lifting weights and walking. Are you getting any carbs in your diet at all other than the sugar in the muscle milk bar? I think your eating routine could use a little adjusting but it's really not as bad as you may think. I would probably shoot to add some more protein and carbs in your diet.
Just curious, what are some examples of what you eat for an entire dinner? How much water are you drinking throughout the day?

As for the muscle milk diet, seems I only do that through the week, and seem to screw it up from friday till sunday afternoon, thats when there are family meals and kids activities anything to celebrate and usually celebrate with food.

Another thing you may want to try is when you are eating with the family, is to slow down as you eat. Chew each bite 20 times, and don't rush. You'll give your brain more time to catch up and realize how full you are so it can tell your body you're full before you've overeaten. If you keep the calories consumed down you'll mitigate the damage from eating not so healthy things.
If you really want to be picky, could you bring your own food to these family events or request something different? It's hard, but it's something I've done in the past and has worked out well for me and others here....especially to BBQs, etc.

I am going start drinking more water as of today (just bought 2 liters), and I am gonna use your suggestions to help me out. I really do appreciate your help, and I'm going to get serious about it. Thank you so much!

| Re: Howdy Everyone My pleasure!!! See how that works for you, and if/when you're ready to get a little more serious with your eating habits, we can map out for you about how many calories a day you should be eating to achieve your weight loss goals...which would require you to start writing down what you're eating.
We can even go a step further and give you a fat/protein/carb breakdown you should shoot for per day.
Just let us know, and good luck!

They all laugh at me and say why bother if thats all your going to eat but it gave me a little treat and didnt really hurt my calorie intake at all. Other then that I just ate turkey and veges. In very small amounts. But when you have to make 5 pies it makes you want to have at least small sample of your work lol.
