| How did you determine your goal weight?
I'm just curious how everyone determined their goal weight.
I have two. They're based on my height (5'6") and my frame size (large) and the weights I've felt good at in the past. My first goal weight is 160, the 2nd is 150. If I end up at 155 I'm fine too!
I don't want to be too thin (if it ever gets to that) because I think older women look better with a wee bit of padding.
So I figure I'll see what I look like at 160. If it's good, I can try to manage that weight...if not, I can try for a little more off...

For me it was a little easier, because I had been at my goal before, so I knew where I needed to get back to. Then I set mini goals in 10lb increments until I got there.
Besides, there's nothing wrong with having a moving target. You get somewhere and you want more or less, you can simply adjust.

| Re: How did you determine your goal weight?
For me I originally set my goal of 150 because it was the high end of "normal" based on my height and frame. Then after thinking about it and getting really close to 150, I have decided once I do hit 150, I will keep going and most likely stop around 140 I think that should be a good weight for me. I have had friends say they think I should stop at 150, but I don't think I should, so I am going to try my best to keep going and hit 140, however if I think I'm getting thinner then I should be I will stop even if I haven't hit 140.

I'm about 5'6/5'7ish large frame. Nothing is set in stone for me.........if I feel comfortable at a certain weight before goal I'll stick there. I use to be very comfortable at 140 (thats why I chose 140)........but that was also 20 years ago. Sooooooo basically I'm losing in mini goals of 10 lbs. and when I get to where I'm comfy I'll claim *goal*.

Mine was based on my height, so my range is 160-145. So my goal is 160 bc I can reach that before 145!

Mine was based on the "normal" weight range for my height. I was aiming for 150 lbs at first, then dropped that to 140 lbs. 150 lbs is at the high end of "healthy" for my height.
I didn't drop my goal to 140 lbs until I reached my goal of 150 lbs. And I slowed the weight loss WAY down once I met my first main goal. I've lost about 20 more lbs since hitting 150 lbs and it has taken a long time. I wanted it to be a two-step process...first drop the extra weight trying to lose as much fat and keep as much lean muscle as possible, then sculpt, tone up and try to firm up as much as I could. I figured I would have some issues with loose skin, which I do a little bit, so I wanted to build up my lean muscle mass to lessen the appearance of loose skin.

I've based mine on when I was the lowest. I actually had the goal of 230 (from 305) because that's a crap ton of weight and knew that i was "ok" at 230. I'm actually pretty comfortable now at 215-220, but do want to get down to 180. My goal is a little higher than what most women my height would go for because of my body type. I carry between 150-160lbs of muscle. I've always been strong and don't necessarily want to lose that, which I will if I try to get to 160-170. I am 5'9" and at 220 have 32.5% body fat (this doesn't fit if you do the little math calculation-I should be more like 33.5%). It's definitely all personal depending on your body type.
The calculations I have of course are partially estimates because I have never had the water test. Would love to do that though!!!

I am really wanting to do the toning up and hopefully building up some more lean muscle to help with the loose skin. While I don't have very much at all, I have actually noticed a bit more lately on my thighs, so I'm really hoping building up some muscle will help with this problem.

It may not be the optimal muscle/fat ratio at times, but I'm hanging in there. Eating habits are the most important, and I've had that mastered for the last 12 years. There is no way I could ever go back to eating the way I used to. Ever. That bad stuff tastes gross to me now.
So is it stressful? Not by a longshot.

I have used one of those charts on the internet to determine what I should weigh for a medium build (not sure what I am so went for the middle), but I dont own scales so I am going off how my clothes fit and how comfortable I feel. I reckon that is the most important. Apart from being healthy you have got to feel comfortable with yourself

I picked my goal weight because the one time in my adult life that I wasn't fat was my 1st year of college when I weighed 175. Now that I'm getting close I think I might not carry as much muscle as I did 10 years ago so I might go a bit lower. Who knows.

I have my goal weight as being 140lbs, which is what I should be for my height, according to all the charts. But realistically, I just want to be able to walk into a shop and buy nice clothes off the rack. I'm fed up of having to shop in large lady shops. I want to be able to see something pretty, and get it, instead of having to rummage around at the back of the rails, only to realise they don't make things in my size anyway. So, whatever weight gets me into pretty things is good with me, lol.

Yes...clothes are a goal for me to lose weight as well. Not that I'm a clothes-horse or fashionista in any way...but I just like my jeans and t-shirts to fit properly...

I have always been overweight, so I didn't judge my goal on a weight I already knew was right for me. I'm starting by setting goals for myself, and I'm going to judge it as I go, based on how I look and how I feel at different weights. I'm not aiming to be any skinny mini, not to mention I'm 6 feet tall, so my weight will never be in the real low range. My first goal is to get to 180, that puts me into a normal BMI range... then I hope to get down to about 160 and see how I feel and look at that weight. I just want to be able to find clothes that fit me easier and be confident enough to get back into a bathing suit. ...Hopefully I can get there.

At 5'2" with a medium frame, I should weigh ~118-132, so I'm aiming for 130lbs! Long way to go, but I'll see you all there...

My husband (who knows better) still has it in his head that all women should weigh around 130 lbs. LOL...he doesn't know why he thinks that either...but it reminds me of women's hats.
Back when I was a teenager, hats were popular for a short while...and I wanted a few hats badly. I look good in hats. I noticed that men's hats came in all different sizes, but women's came in 'one-size-fits-all'. I have a big head. NONE of those hats fit me...not ever...
That's when I got irked that it was accepted that men came in a variety of sizes, but women somehow were supposed to conform to one size... Quote:
