| Hello All! Hey Y'all!
I am new and wanted to get to know some of you here! I am a mom of 3, 38 yrs old and a cancer survivor who just found out that I have a liver mass. My children are 19, 17 and 7 yrs and I have been married for 20 yrs.
I have doubled my bodyweight and need to lose what I have gained!!!! I really would like to see my youngest one grow up (she is only 7), PLUS, if I have to have surgery again, I do not want to be a whale on the OR table. I have also sought professional help from the Cleveland Clinic and am going on a protein sparing diet... But there is nothing like support from others that are fighting the same fight!
Thank you all for reading my post!!!

Thank you all for reading my post!!! | Welcome to the site ImissME! Sorry to hear about your liver mass . You have plenty of time to get yourself at the weight you want to be at, and you seem very motivated (and for the right reasons)! You are already a step ahead!
Protein sparing diet, i.e. very very low calorie intake while still consuming a decent amount of protein I take it? Just curious, how many calories and grams of protein a day do you plan on consuming? I really hope it works out well for you, and we would all love to hear your progress with this weight loss plan!

My daily food plan is 12-13 oz of meat and 2 Vegie servings. Broken down to 4 oz of lean meat 3 times a day with the vegies at any time. I have to drink 64 oz of fluids as well. NO Sugars and NO Breads. This is to be done along with taking Potassium, Calcium, a Mutlivitamin, Magnesium and the Sodium (salt is to be taken in @ 1/4 tsp per meal or 3 bouillon cubes; due to the lose of sodium during Ketosis).
For a treat, I can have 1 sugar free popsicle or 1/2 cup of sugar free gelatin (2 grms of Carbs)
To "enhance" the flavor of meals, they gave me a combo of Herbs to create a shaker: - 1 1/2 tsp sage
- 3 tsp thyme
- 3 tsp marjoram
- 1 1/2 tsp rosemary
I started this morning!!! YEAH!

| Re: Hello All! How much veggies? this seems quite close too what I was prescribed to eat. My issues are with the 64oz of water a day...but I recently found a trick. I chew any mint sugarfree gum while drinking the water and I don't notice the taste. It also make the water seem extra cold!!

| Re: Hello All! I don't see your workout plan?
I'm going to be the nay sayer about the atkins scenario due to the fact that everyone reads the first part about induction and stops there. They never reintroduce carbs etc. Be aware that without a good workout plan you'll be dropping a lot of muscle as well as fat. When I dropped 50lbs 3 years ago with Atkins I never exercised and couldn't maintain the "lifestyle". The workout and reduced intake program I'm on now I feel much healthier, stronger, "sexier" and revitalized as to just skinnier on the Atkins plan.
I know it's day one and I don't want to rain on your parade but at a minimum start doing 15 minutes or cardio first week and ramp up 5 additional minutes until you're at 40 minutes per day 5 days a week.
Good luck!!!
Mike
If I can do it, anyone can!

| Re: Hello All! Hi Mark,
Do not know if you went out and did the Atkins thing all alone or not, but I am on a " Protein-Sparing Modified Fast Diet" under the Direct Supervision of a Dietitian and my Internal Med. Specialist from the Cleveland Clinic, with blood work every 30 days and routine check-ins with my care providers. I would NEVER try anything so silly without help; for it would be far to risky to your heart and kidneys (on top of just the "muscle" waste)
My plan DOES have a "Re-Feeding" of Carbs, but only after my weight has returned to normal. These new habits are Behavior modifications.
I was walking and riding bike (on average of 5 miles 4 days a week)... but then I had to be rushed to the ER (first time ever) due to severe pain under my right rib cage (liver mass found) in the fall, so now I am trying the elliptical. I have also lost part of my Left Lung to cancer (non smoker).
Thanks for your input!!

Thanks for your input!! | I am really curious to see how this all is going to work out for you! Elliptical is my favorite cardio machine by far; it is the easiest on my joints and knees (I have had 2 knee surgeries- torn ACL and torn Meniscus). You sure have been through a lot for someone so young, but I'm sure it has given you the toughness to tackle your weight loss quest!
Please keep us updated on how this is working for you!

I know this was not directed at me, but I notice you have made this comment several times now...
I will tell you for me personally, I was prescribed this diet I am on by my doctor and a diabetes nutritionist. This is not just the Atkins diet, I also take medication. And I am a workout addict. The year before last, when I lost 88lbs I had an extremely physical job (I thought it was great, it was like getting paid to workout!) I was also running 5 miles a day. This time around after having the baby its a little trickier. I am staying at home with her so I miss out on the workout at work...and finding time to run is not easy to do with a 5 month old. I was taking her in her stroller, but we live in Florida and unfortunately it has already become too hot to take her out in the sun that long. I do however use a Gazelle. I recently found a suggestion online somewhere that said to put the baby in one of those sling/carrier things and exersize with them on you, using their weight as added resistance. Just wanted to make sure that you had all the facts, and that I am an advocate for exersize...there is no other way to lose the weight.
Thanks for the concerns

If you don't mind me asking, what is the goal do you hope to obtain with stomach exercises? I have plenty to offer but need to know what you are hoping to get out of them first.

My gym's elliptical machine is my best friend in the world too! Without it I probably would do less cardiovascular exercise than I do now.

| Re: Hello All! Thanks for the welcome!! It is actually the easiest diet I have ever been on. The hard part of the diet is actually going off of it and following the re-feeding. I don't like a lot of food options, I am happy limiting myself to lean protein and a few select vegetables. I have also never felt better. My diabetes is under control now and my cholesterol has dropped as well. I also have a lot more energy. It works for me
