| Aerobic exercise, weights and core training
I think of my exercise routines as a balance of activities to keep my body in shape. Most of my routine is aerobic, about 40 minutes. I do two routines that consider themselves vigorous for core training, good posture, balance, and limberness. I also do light weights a couple times a week. I gave myself some hernias, so, I don't push that button any more. My goal is being fit and having a healthy lifestyle that I can keep when I'm 90.
What do others find works best for weight control and healthy lifestyle?

You might want to talk with a fitness expert to develop a rounded program that covers all the different areas. They'd be able to make sure you're not either under/overdoing any one...
I don't do any 'official' exercise program. I've been taking a low-impact dance class since September (just to up my overall activity) and I walk my dogs. I also got a new puppy back in October both to train and to motivate me to walk more.
And hopefully, I'll get back up on my horse this year...

I'm a member of a gym and also attend health shows. We have such an incredible women's show every year. Fitness experts from every walk of life come and give classes. Its nice because you can talk to them in person, they can see what you look like and you can see who their target audience is. They also give advice and make recommendations. Their credentials are very broad, podiatrists, dance guru's and sports fans. I'm getting up my nerve about a personal trainer. There are a couple people I would like to talk to, but scheduling things is difficult for me.

Yes, it's sometimes hard to fit in extra appointments...but it's probably well worth the effort. As I said, I'm not a gym user...but my daughter was doing high-level athletics, so I have an idea of what everyone's role is...and the various experts are very useful! LOL...just be careful you get help that is geared to you...I've noticed some trainers, etc. seem to be 'one-trick' ponies...and they don't as easily take different needs into account...

I've been a member of a gym for three years and haven't taken any of my free appointments. Isn't that awful? I'm very apprehensive about talking to someone I don't know. But, I'm getting use to the place and a feeling for who I think likes working with people like me. I think the older gentleman who works with people who have physical issues is someone I'd like to listen to. I suspect he is a cautious athelete.

I do about an equal amount of cardio and strength training but I've started to add beginning yoga into my routine, mostly to improve my balance and flexibility (both of which are awful).
