| A way to lose weight? Alright, heres a little background info. I am a 16 years old male and weigh 240 pounds and i'm nearly 6ft. My height keeps me looking better then a normal height 240 pound teenager, but thats not the case. Im starting to feel slow, and even less active then I was before last fall. I want to lose weight before I start school in the fall, since I dont want to miss out on all the fun stuff at school such as dances, and beach trips. So heres my problem, my family is not very supportive of my "weight issue", and its hard to stick on any diet with my slimmer one year younger brother taunting you while you try to work out. With that problem addressed I want to find a diet that I can do without my family knowing. Any suggestions? Also on certin diets, is it possible for me to lose about 20 pounds or 40 in 2 months? Thanks alot.

| Re: A way to lose weight? you could lose 20lbs on just about any diet but keeping it off might be different story. you could start walking or jogging in the mornings and evenings that way you arent at home for anyone to tease you and just try eating smaller portions than you normally would and cut out all the candy and chips and soda and drink ALOT more water. No one will really notice those changes to much at first and once your weight loss it noticable they may become more supportive or you could just sit down with your parents and explain to them why you want/need to do this and that you want and need them to be supportive

| Re: A way to lose weight? Yea, I have decided to eat less of the food that get, and to play DDR. I play games so if they see me playing DDR they wont think much of it. Thanks for the response. I am planing on starting tomorrow so ill see how this will go.

| Re: A way to lose weight? Chrisy seems to have covered everything, but I thought I could add a bit. I'm 20, also about 40 lb overweight, have 4 superskinny sisters, and dont want them to know that i'm trying to lose weight.
Instead of going on a "diet" you might want to try eating what you normally would if you were attempting to maintain your goal weight. You'll still be eating a lot less than now, but no one around you would notice because you are eating no less than they are. After a while you can reduce your calorie intake even more.
20 lb in 2 months is totally doable, especially for a guy. 40 is not so easy, and I highly suggest that you dont attempt to do it.

| Re: A way to lose weight? I want to wish you all the luck! Also, I would suggest that in addition to walking or jogging, start drinking a lot of water: at least 6-8 glasses a day. If you drink soda, substitute it with water instead. I know, not very tempting, but sodas have anywhere from 165-200 calories in them and those calories add up. The magic number is 3500. That is the amount of calories in a pound of fat. Remember, you are not alone. We are all here to help you.

| Re: A way to lose weight? DDR is a great idea. There's also Wiifit and WiiSports. I don't know if there are scientific studies to show they actually help you to lose weight but ehy, any activity that makes you burn calories will help right? |
