Corroon pushes anti-obesity effort in Salt Lake County
Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon wants to help you get into shape and is willing to pull his own weight to get you there.
"Today, it is with great pleasure that I announce what I consider an exciting new public health initiative for our county," said the mayor. Friday, Mayor Corroon presented the new "Weigh Active and Healthy" program for Salt Lake County residents. The program encourages residents to exercise 15-30 minutes at least four times a week to decrease rates of obesity, which currently exceed 58 percent in the county.
Overall the eight week program hopes to raise awareness about benefits of a healthy lifestyle while helping residents develop long-term habits of increased physical activity. The program will begin Monday, August 14th at 6:00 p.m. with a kick off walk around Sugar House Park and will continue until Monday, October 2nd with a wrap event at Liberty Park.
Mayor Corroon has promised a signed certificate to anyone who sends in a marked log of eight weeks daily exercise to his office by October 16th.
