Walking from obesity in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville participants "walked from obesity" Saturday downtown in Georgia's only event to promote walking and exercise as a way to hold down unhealthy weight.
The 2.3-mile walk around Brenau University was part of a national "Walk from Obesity" across the nation.
Nona McDaniel said she's lost a lot of weight and knows the value of walking to keep her weight down.
"I just want to support the obese community and let them know there are ways we can reduce," she said.
The walk brought awareness that obesity

is really a life threatening disease and it raised money for research, prevention and treatment.
Victor Gonzalez came from Marietta for the walk; he once weighed 400 pounds.
Gonzalez underwent surgery, a gastric bypass, to rid himself of two hundred pounds, but said walking helps maintain proper weight.
"It depends on what people want out of life, what quality of life they want to have, but they need exercise," Gonzalez said.
