Panama Hosts Child Obesity Workshop
Panama, May 15 (Prensa Latina) Specialists in childhood health from 10 Latin American nations are meeting from Monday in Panama City to seek solutions to the growing obesity in children and teenagers.
Attendees at the workshop, concluding May 19, will draw up projects to prevent the disease and control the cases reported.
According to experts, one in four minors in the world is currently suffering from this anomaly, while one in three is prone to suffer it.
They alert that this phenomenon is a risk factor for the development of chronic respiratory and heart diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure and some kinds of cancer, among others.
For them, the main cause of obesity in minors is the consumption of so-called junk food.
