    hi OD,

we went to the olive garden last night. i didn't want to go to any resturant but was obligated to do so. about the only thing i found on the menu was their grilled salmon & veggies. so i got thru it OK.

i think that i am afraid that if i screw up and indulge for 1 meal, that it could be the thing that derails me. so anyway, yeah, i am doing OK so far.... but the urge to splurge is still ever-present at times. and that is the one thing that i am unable to get rid of it seems.

    sure.
i have a few good copies from other links near the end of first page that are really important to understand...

    1. understand carbohydrate metabolism & the insulin response - this is key
    2. see how i fell off the wagon and how i got back on - all to easy to fail living within a society that no longer depends upon hunting/gathering.

That urge to splurge will lessen over time. That's the beauty of this whole process; the longer you do it the easier it gets. Nice move at the Olive.

    Re: why wait?

yes cookie... keep on coming along. we'll get to the place we want to be

i don't think you can do what i am doing tho. my diet is super top heavy in fresh vegetables and then the normal amount of meat. about the only low value carbs i have is honey i put into my tea.... and i do not have 3meals a day per "standard american diet" aka SAD (lol, yeah, sad)

this is not a very agreeable pallete for alot of people because they are simply used to having 3 meals a day at specific times of breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

    i don't do that.

i don't really believe that 3 meals a day are nessessary. i think ten's of thousands of years ago, before agriculture came into existence, the hunter gatherers basically ate when food(meat) was obtained plus whatever was in the cache such as ground up corn, berries, etc to make breads or whatever.. and that was shared with the group (aka family). my guess is that the early human population was very healthy (weight wise), although it being rough to survive out there like any other animal is what probably was the cause of their shorter lifetimes is because of the lack of medicine & injuries or war over food supplies &/or territories.

now 10,000 years ago, a jump occured and agriculture made it possible to store large amounts of food for groups, which became settlements, and so on and so forth. well, genetically speaking, 10,000 years (or about 259-280 generations) is really not enough time for the human genetics to catch up in terms of the evolutionary scheme of things... maybe 100,000 years from now(if we are still here), humans can live off of sugar cubes alone - lol.

anyway, what i have discovered by limiting my meals is that i simply am not hungry for the better part of the day and i believe this is so because my stomach lining has shrunk in size since i do not overfiull it at meals causing it to stretch in the first place. not sure on that one tho.... but it seems a smaller tummie will send a signal to the brain that it ids "full" earlier than a stretched out tummie that most americans have.

for me, most of this battle is about psychology... so i guess you can say i am like waging war against all of the low quality food that is everywhere i go it seems. it's hard... but i gotta get this weight off this time. carrying around all of this excess weight for the better part of my adult life has probably trimmed 10 years off my lifetime. now that is something to think about and act upon, imo. i have failed before, many times. i don't want to this time.

i also see it like this:
i've got this HUGE energy source around my waist. why not burn it? some people say that just because i am not conforming to the "standard" mealtime itinery of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, that i must be starving. believe me, i am not starving. if you want a good example of starving, go to some of the third world countries - that's what i say back.

anyway, thanks to you (and all) for your continued support
