    Weight loss voyage

well, seems the thing to do, to start a blog here so i guess i will follow suit.

i have been on my "journey' for three days now. i have started weight loss so many times before, i am just really praying that this time its for good!! i have never lost more than 35 pounds so if i can make it past that plateau, i will be encouraged.

i have lost 3 pounds as of today and have been very good with my eating, logging everything i eat and coming about 500 calories under my required amount each day. i have not gotten in an exercise routine yet, hopefully that will happen over the next couple of days when my regular schedule gets back underway.

hopefully i can remember to post here everyday to help keep myself accountable.

    i will do this!!

Good job so far!! Continue to keep up the good work. You've already lost weight which goes to show that what they say is true. Weight loss is 80% food and 20% exercise. Keep the post coming!!! I am proud of you.

How much cals are you doing?

aww...thanks. i am proud of me too

1560 cals is my goal, i am trying not to get too obsessed if i go over a bit, that is usually what ends up making me give up. i really need to learn how to mess up and get right back on track. so far so good though, if i can just get the exercise in. another of my habits is staying up late, and then i eat. at the moment it is 10:45 and my goal is to be in bed by 11. i am printing some healthy recipes for tomorrow and then i am forcing myself to GO TO BED!! maybe i can actually get up tomorrow morning before my kiddos and do some exercise!! hope you have a great night!

welcome to this forum and much fun on your journey i realised that just getting closer to my goal day by day keeps me motivated. now through christmas i didn't lose too much, just maintained - but to keep motivated through that i just compared old and new pictures to confirm i'm on the right track. you can do it just as everyone else on here. advice is good and people are friendly. hope we all can help you stick to your goal.

    Re: Weight loss voyage

woke up to almost another pound of weight lost. i know it is mostly water from my dietary changes but it is still encouraging. started off the day with a great filling low fat breakfast and hopefully will maintain again throughout the day.

i did not get up at 7 as planned and get in my cardio, but hopefully tomorrow.

You sound so much like me. I go to bed too late get up too early and have little energy plus I have to go to work. I used to eat tons of junk when up late but now if I'm up I'll have a fruit or non fat yogurt but mostly drink a cup of chamomile tea. 1500 cals sounds great how is that going? I am trying the exercise in the morning also a bit challenging when I don't get much sleep. You can do it even if it's only 20 mins.

the 1500 calories seems pretty right for me, i am by no means famished, i try to spend my calories very wisely with protein rich food and no (or very few) simple carbs. i dont really feel hungry...just wanting to eat out of habit. the sugar is calling out to me now that i have been off of it a few days...i definatly feel like i am having withdraws from the stuff, i have also cut back on caffeine which has been tough. i had a migraine tonight and had to break out a diet coke but only drank a few sips. i also ate a donut hole today...BUT i only ate 1...normally i would have probably eaten 6 or more. i am amazed at myself at how well i have been eating. i really hope when i go back to work i can keep it up and avoid eating out.

i just have to keep telling myself...EXERCISE...EXERCISE!!

Sounds awesome. I eat out but keep it limited to salads, whole wheat wraps, no mayo or cheese. I sometimes go subway and get a footlong turkey without cheese filled with veggies and cut into 4 which I split and eat every 3hours with 1/2 apple or banana and tons of water. I do this maybe 1x a week. Exercise remember every little bit counts. Keep up the good work.

    Re: Weight loss voyage

Sounds like you're off to a solid start! Excellent!

If the exercise is an issue...just don't worry about 'official' exercise at the moment, but try to just work more 'activity' into your day.

    Examples:

Park at the far back of the mall parking lot and walk
Take the stairs vs. the elevator (start with one flight and then do more as you can)
    Hang up the laundry
    Wash dishes by hand
    Vacuum every day
Get rid of the remote control (you'd be amazed at how useful that is)
Hold your hands up over your head 2-3 times a day and do the 'wave'
Do 5 squats while brushing your teeth, etc.

All those little, doable, activities make a big difference at the end of the day...and once you're moving better, you'll find that you might actually want to do some official exercise...

thanks for those suggestions rue! i am going to try some of those. i already take the stairs in the parking garage at work but i need to do them in the building at work too, and be more diligent about it. i really need to park on the 5th floor and do the stairs instead of just the 3rd. onward and upward!!

    Re: Weight loss voyage

I exercised today!!!! 20 min on the elliptical trainer. it was 6:30pm so i am interested to see if it impacts my sleep, but i burned over 300 calories. for eating, breakfast started off good but this afternoon i splurged on lunch, we celebrated a birthday today and my mother cooked chicken and dumplins so i ate about 800 calories worth of dinner and another 300 of dessert. funny thing is i still ate way less than i normally would have so i can not imagine how many calories i would usually consumed with a meal like this. i drank only water and green tea with chai (no sugar or cream). normally in sweet tea alone i probably would have taken in hundreds of extra calories. overall a descent day. hoping for a loss come next week.

Yes, posting daily makes a big difference from an accountability standpoint! Glad to see things are already off on the right foot! You got this!

How many hours of sleep a night are you getting on average? One of the things that hinders some of our members' weight loss journeys is a lack of sleep (less than 8 hours).

Great restraint! The thing with exercise is once you get started the motivation just comes and you don't stop. Even when I don't feel like going to the gym I make myself drive there anyway, and once I'm in the parking lot that motivation just hits me like a brick wall.

Yep, whole wheat wraps, either chicken breast, turkey breast or ham for me, no cheese, maybe some light veggies and very light on the sauce! Love me some Subway!

Your mind is in the right place for long term success! You're making all the right choices, and splurging a but in moderation and a controlled fashion! Great job!

    Re: Weight loss voyage

thanks so much for the encouragement!! i have had a really weird day today....very busy...i have only taken in about 290 calories today and it is 9PM. i didnt exercise but did a bunch of housework. i have the urge to binge since i have not eaten much today and am kind of hungry, but i am just going to have a lite snack now before bed (eventhough i hate eating right before bed) but i feel like that low cal count may not be the greatest for my body right now (dont want to throw it into starvation mode). i will get back on track tomorrow. i am a teacher so i am back to work (well i teach college and it does not start till next week but i will be in part time this week). it will be interesting to see how the new lifestyle fits into my teaching schedule.

i have decided that once i get my christmas tree down tomorrow, my elliptical machine is going in its place and will now have prominence in my family room in front of the TV, instead of tucked away in the den. i figure this will get me on it more often. even if its only 10 minutes here and there throughout the day, it will do me a world of good.

hope everyone is having a good night!!

I think moving the elliptical machine will be handy! Just don't let anyone put their coats on it...once that starts, it becomes a coat rack for ever...lol...

I also teach p/t at a college. I've been buying salads at the cafeteria. Too expensive really, and I probably average 2-3 a week. This year I really should try and bring my own salads. I should make that a resolution (but I know I won' t keep it).

i am down another 2 pounds today. i also worked out again, 5 miles (22 min) on the bike and 20 min (1 mile) of walking. i have signed up with a group of other exercise minded folks on FB and set my goal of walking 400 miles and biking 200 miles this year. i know it is not a lofty goal for most but gotta start somewhere.

That's an excellent goal. And at least you have a goal! That's an important point.

Being to vague about a goal isn't helpful.
