Time to open up a can of weight loss!
Interesting title, huh? Haha.
Well if you haven't read my introduction thread, I suggest you do so as many details are there.
If you want to view my introduction thread, please click here.
This will be where I post my progress and what goes on in my life from now on. Please do not expect daily responses as I am trying to avoid the computer as much as possible to break a bad habit.
02-27-12, 05:08 AM #2Welcome! and lol
nice title!
You seem to have a few of the same barriers I have when it comes to weight loss. Most strikingly the video game thing. You shouldn't have to give up whats fun for you to lose weight. You just have to approach it differently. Ive been doing this for a while now so I'll try give a little advice closer to home regarding that.
I try to blog everyday if I can. I find it keeps me honest. Though I sympathize with the computer thing. My solution is to set up a routine where I can't ignore my workout/daily stuff for my computer.
I get up early and get my stuff ready for the day and have brekfast pop on the comp while I eat and check my comp update stuff. Then head off to the gym at a preset time ( I'm going with my brother which helps a lot, if you have a friend to bring along with your exercise). Then do my business stuff on the way home and by the time I get home Ive done my daily exercise and gotten everything important out of the way. So I can sit down and enjoy my game time safe in the knowledge that I have nothing left to do today.
Speaking of which. Ive got me some deus ex to play before bed! Your on the right track keep it up!

03-08-12, 04:43 PM #4Thanks for the compliment on my title! Haha. It's nice to see another gamer around here. I don't intend to completely detach myself from gaming, I just feel that if I stop playing it for a while I will be less tempted to sneak on when I'm supposed to do a workout or something in general. Once I can trust myself, I will come around more often.
Thanks for being concerned. I've come across this problem lately where working out causes me to have throbbing in my head and sometimes a occasional dry cough that lasts 1 ~ 5 hours. Sometimes I also get small pains in my chest near my heart. I'm not quite sure why. I'm hoping it's just because I'm still sort of new to working out. Am I straining myself? Should I relax a little more or what?
03-08-12, 04:52 PM #5If you're not use to exercising, take a little time to ease into it...do a little warm-up ad cool down. Once you get more limber you can start to push it a little harder if you like...
But yes, your body is just rebelling a little at unaccustomed movement...The only difference between a rut and a grave is their dimensions.

03-08-12, 05:11 PM #6I see, thanks for your opinion. All I did was run up and down the stairs 15 times today and the stuff specified above started happening. I normally do this hourly on rainy days since I don't like to go out when the weather is bad. There's 12 steps on the flight of stairs I was using if this data is needed. Should I replace my cardio workout with something else? Perhaps lower the amount of times I run up and down?
03-08-12, 06:51 PM #7I don't know that you need to do less...just take it a little slower until your body is used to it...
For example, normally I walk up my 4 flights of stairs to my office...today I tried running...lol. Too much still. :thud: But I think I can start to maybe walk 2 flights and run 2 until I get used to it...
You know your body best. The only difference between a rut and a grave is their dimensions.

03-08-12, 07:51 PM #8Krystina - I would really recommend seeing a doctor. Go over your eating and exercise regime with him and tell him about the reactions you've been having. It's always best to be safe rather than sorry!
It's my choice. I can stuff my face with food or I can stuff my life with living.

I agree that you should see a doctor just to be sure that everything is ok with your heart and all, good to be sure. Myself I still feel a slight uncomfortable pain near my heart area and my dr said just what Rue mentioned here, that it is ok but take it easier if feel any stronger. But my doctor knows my problems and i feel you should asks yours.
03-22-12, 12:50 AM #10That has happened to me a few times when doing something above and beyond what my body is used to. I agree that you should definitely ease into things a bit more, but it's always a good idea to run it by your doctor any time you're changing your lifestyle so drastically as a double check.
My guess is you're fine, but you should still double check.
You could either lower the amount of times you go up and down the stairs and slowly raise it each time so your body gets used to it, or look to do an at home exercise DVD where you can easily pace yourself and stop as needed.
Did you by chance look into this the past week? I like the exercise motivation, have you been doing anything food wise?
03-28-12, 03:36 PM #11The doctor said my blood pressure goes up quite a bit when I exercise and that I should take it easy. He said if it gets worse he might have to put me on medication for blood pressure, but just for when I exercise.
As for eating, it seems I've inspired my brother and my cousin to start losing weight too, so they've been helping me out with that part. They buy fruits, vegetables, chicken, eggs and a small bit of grain, usually like a loaf of whole grain bread. They even bought me a ticket to a gym. It costs 10$ a month and you can be there whenever and however long you want. It's pretty awesome. There is no more tempting bad food in the house, I didn't even want a cake for my birthday on the 18th, I feel like my appetite has changed drastically since I've actually been able to eat different foods. I'm hoping with all the different foods in the house, we can inspire my mom to lose weight too. She's going to be a tough one though, her depression is quite severe and any time something starts going good she goes through a denial phase.
Anyway, so far I've lost 13 pounds since my last weigh in and broccoli is my new favorite vegetable.
03-29-12, 10:56 AM #12Congrats! That's lots! And I'm so glad you've broccoli on your side!!!

04-20-12, 09:14 PM #16Hi guys! It's been a while. Thanks for saying happy birthday, I appreciate it a lot. Happy belated Easter to everyone!

I was recently told that I should stop being so hard on myself and doing difficult workouts again. She said that it seemed like I was "punishing" myself for being overweight. I told the lady. "I am angry at myself for letting it get this far out of hand, but I wouldn't call it a punishment. I was punishing myself when I was doing nothing but sitting around all day." She seemed happy with my reply, hehe.
Let's face it though, exercising at a snail's pace will do nothing for my body. It makes me feel like I'm just working out to prevent myself from gaining more weight, but not losing it. So I need to work out hard to be satisfied.
The medicine did wonders for my head. I don't feel a throbbing in it at all anymore, so I don't have to hold back! This is actually starting to get fun. That person who could barely get up a flight of steps is now able to run around. I'd joyfully shout "I can move again!" but people may think I'm crazy. Haha.
I'm eating great, my appetite for bad foods has completely vanished...well, I've always hated bad foods, but you can say I can't even look at them anymore. I don't consider it, not even for a second.
As for weight, I dropped a lot since I've last visited here...you won't believe it! Let's just say it's more than my age's worth!
The only downsides to this update is that my Mom still hasn't joined us or taken this seriously and my Aunt's cat died recently. R.I.P. Buttons. He died of cancer, but lived a long, happy life.Last edited by Krystina; 04-20-12 at 09:20 PM.
