Obesity & Morphene (Naturally Produced by the Body) Linked to One Another

A NATURAL pain-killing chemical produced by the brain might be encouraging the body to pile on fat, tests by Australian obesity researchers have revealed.
Scientists have shown for the first time that dynorphins, the body’s version of morphine, play a leading role in controlling weight gain and weight loss.
The breakthrough at Sydney’s Garvan Institute opens the way for new weight-loss therapies.
A team from the institute’s eating disorders research group used mice to investigate the role of dynorphins — opioid-like chemicals produced in the part of the brain that regulates appetite and weight.
They bred mice that were unable to make the chemical and the effect on the rodents’ weight was “dramatic”, researcher Amanda Sainsbury-Salis said.
“We found that these mice had significantly less body fat than the normal group, and they lost 15-20 per cent more weight than normal mice while eating the same amounts of food,” Dr Sainsbury-Salis said.
