- What is your opinion on how society treats the obese? That's a hard question, for the most part the obesity is a trained or learned scenario that has caused the weight issue (not every time of course). Since the person is partially or fully to blame for their own problems people think it's "OK" to treat them badly. I never specifically was called any names in passing or taunted etc during my overweight time.
- How does being obese make you feel? I had the pain of regret, I regretted I didn't work out, I regretted I ate that bag of cookies etc. The pain of regret seems to continually stack on itself until it seems unbearable, until it's washed away with the pain of sacrifice. I had to sacrifice laying around, eating bad food and not exercising. I miss out on going to lunch with my friends every day or eating that whole bag of cookies or 1/2 gallon of ice cream but the pay off is I feel better and I'll live longer.
- Have you or are you planning on having weight lose surgery? Absolutely not and I oppose the very thought of it except for very special circumstances. How can you learn to sacrifice and make good habits doing this? There are some very nice people on this site who have done it and have been successful with it but everyone I personally know that has had it done it's failed miserably.

- What is your opinion on how society treats the obese? like with anything else it depends on how obese you are to how you are treated, I have been through the full thing. To a point you will be execpted past that point you are made fun of then after that people tend to pretend you are not there.
- How does being obese make you feel? Sad, angry, depressed
- Have you or are you planning on having weight lose surgery? I had the surgery 7 years ago, I lost a lot then gained almost 100lbs back because I didnt change my behavior. Now that I have changed my behavior I have lost that 100 pluss some extra and still working hard to lose the rest.
- I agree with Mike that most people fail horribly from the surgery. I know I did. and other people I know have also. It takes hard work and comitment to lose weight and keep it off, in most cases people think the surgery will be an easy fix and thats just not so.

| Re: Research for my class - How long have you been obese?
I can't say for sure but as an estimate I would say it started when I was about 15, which would make it 9 years now.
- What is your opinion on how society treats the obese?
I think I have been lucky in that my own personal experience isn't that representative of most others, but the fundamental difference I've noticed since slimming down is that people find me far more approachable and are less on their guard. The opposite sex especially seem far more comfortable. In retrospect I would say that my bulk and the way I looked to most people sparked off a kind of fear of a) the unknown b)social awkwardness and c)a great big beardy thuggish looking guy. - How does being obese make you feel?
Physically tired when faced with long flights of steps...emotionally though I'm rather content. I don't honestly believe any cause for extremes of happiness or sadness have been rooted in weight issues. Again, being simply obese now rather than morbidly (bordering on super) obese I'm a little sad about what I talked about in the previous response, of not realising people were treating me differently until I had a basis for comparison. So, paradoxically enough, now that I'm thinner I'm a little more down on the whole thing. - Have you or are you planning on having weight lose surgery?
No, in fact it was when I heard a doctor suggest it that I finally realised things had gotten out of hand. I guess at heart I'm so cheap I realised that going through the hell of adapting my diet from a decadent one to a healthy one was the preferable option next to the expensive quick-fix solution. Hope this was of some help
