| Regretting Bariatric Surgery Hello. My name is Jenn, I'm a female in my 30s and I recently had gastric bypass surgery. In the past 3 months post-op I have lost 54 pounds (lost 27 pre-op). But I am having a very difficult time post surgery. I throw up a lot, I'm exhausted, my brain isn't functioning right, and I have no energy for the activities I used to participate in (dancing, hiking, boating).
My new motto has become "I feel like $h!t, but I look fabulous".
I'm hoping to see if others have experienced the same difficulty, and how they overcame it, and suggestions on how to get through this difficult time.

| Re: Regretting Bariatric Surgery What's your carbohydrate intake? Lack of carbs is a sure sign to cause that.

I'm hoping to see if others have experienced the same difficulty, and how they overcame it, and suggestions on how to get through this difficult time. | One explanation could be your diet. Are you taking the recommended nutrients?
Sometimes certain foods will make you vomit or feel yucky. It may take trial and error to see which foods work for you. Trying new foods one at a time will help you figure out which foods cause problems. Harder foods to digest include: - Tough meat, especially red meat
- Dairy
- Carbonated drinks
- Bread
- Pasta/rice
- Fatty or fried foods
You could have dumping syndrome which comes from food passing too quickly from the stomach to the small intestine. Some of the symptoms are: rapid heartbeat, nausea, feeling cold/clammy, and possibly diarrhea.
To prevent dumping: - Do not drink liquids w/ meals. Wait 30 minutes after a meal to start sipping 0 calorie, non-carbonated drinks.
- Avoid sweets, such as candy, cookies, and ice cream.
This could just take time. It would help to know what you are eating though.

| Re: Regretting Bariatric Surgery Gee, Mike B., I didn't think about carbs. I have been so focused on protein, that I haven't been taking in much in the way of carbs. That would also explain the cravings I've been feeling.
It's tough because a lot of the healthy way to get carbs (fruit and veggies) are hard for me to digest. But I will try to add more no-sugar-added-applesauce and potatoes to my diet.
Thanks so much! ~Jenn J.

welcome!

| Re: Regretting Bariatric Surgery Hi just a little input here do you take a mulitivitamin? I had a gastric rny surgery in 2000 and I have to take 2 a day one in the morning and one at night. I have found the best carbs to eat are like in oatmeal or yogurt things like that and not potatos and bread.
It took me a while to feel like my old self again after surgery. I threw up the first yr I think and still have a problem with some foods like rice and bread.
I hope your feeling better.
