| Newbie needs ideas Hey folks!
I am new here. I am a 43 yo female, 5'7", 232. I work nights and sleep days. I have just started having BP problems. I DO smoke (for over 20 yrs) but will be quitting very soon.
I eat pretty crappy food...frozen pizza, go out to eat, etc. I drink mostly sweet tea and Dr. Pepper, although I have been trying to get more water in lately. My job requires me to be on my feet all 8 hrs, but I'm not just standing, there is a lot of walking involved. I try to eat fruits and veggies, but it's difficult because my partner never eats any of that. We get what I call, "trace veggies"...you know, the stuff they sprinkle on frozen "supreme" pizza...lol.
Anyway, I can never just eat. I eat until I am stuffed! I mean uncomfortable! I'm not sure what that's about. I don't get any exercise, really. I should be at LEAST taking the dog for a walk...sigh. I am very lazy and unmotivated. I want to go to the gym that our employees get a discount at, but again, my partner doesn't want to. The problem there is that I want to go right after work. It's right near my job. We only have 1 car and she'd have to sit around while I work out. Is it unfair to ask her to do that? It's too much gas, etc to take her home first. She has a little paunch, but is VERY insecure and just wont go to a gym.
I am doing a little at a time. I've added fruits to my breakfast, trying to eat nuts, seeds, and raisins for snacking instead of 1/2 a box of cheez-its. I have added water in place of soda a few times a day. Thank goodness they now have singles in frozen veggies! I'm able to get them even when she won't eat a veggie with dinner.
I am in need of encouragement and ideas for getting my partner interested... or at least understanding what I need to do for myself.
Thanks!
OBouder

| Re: Newbie needs ideas Hi there, I 'm new too. I am sorry your partner isn't more supportive of your health concerns. I don[t know what you do for work, but sometimes stress can push the blood pressure high too. Do some deep breathing exercises to calm yourself a few times a day or when you are stressed...maybe before eating even. Sounds like you walk a lot so maybe not more exercise but just eating better, destressing and asking for support might be helpful?
Ask your partner for support. I had a partner once that must have wanted me fatter for security sake and he, even though he knew I was dieting, brought home all my favorite sweets and donuts and candy, and eventually I got that he was sabotaging my efforts and not supportive...in weight loss or life.

OBouder | I'd try to get her to go once with you just to humor you, and who knows, maybe she'll enjoy it! I would skip the raisins; they're loaded in sugar, and go light on fruits in general, but in moderation it's OK.
As far as some ideas for you, check this topic: http://www.obesitydiscussion.com/for...-add-3689.html
