| Newbie here :) hi
Hi Everyone!
I'm brand new to the site and wanted to say hey to everyone! I joined the site to get some inspiration to keep on trucking along on my diet. I keep failing on my diets and I can't fail anymore for my health sake. I'm 21 and I'm having serious back pains everyday and all the time. I'm 5'10 ..yepper im tall ..and I weigh 320 pounds, i'm not sure how in the world I got so out of control, I know it's because of my love for carbs. Anyways a little bit about myself, I'm 21, I'm a registered medical assistant student here in Knoxville, Tennessee and after I graduate I'm going back to school to become a RN. Losing weight is very important to me, I need to lose quite a bit of weight and my longterm goal for this year is 100 pounds hope I can make it. Hope to hear from you all soon and get to know you guys!
Have a wonderful day,
Amber

Hi Amber! Welcome! It's nice to see more people heading into the medical field! We sure need nurses!
100lbs in a year? No problem! That's about 2lbs per week which is very doable. All that's needed (I know this sounds easier than it really is) is for you to create a calorie deficit of about 1000 calories a day on average. If you don't exercise at all, you'll need to start off by eating about 1700 calories a day on average. If you exercise a few times a week you can eat roughly 2100 calories a day and still achieve your goals.
Have you figured out how you plan on going about losing the weight?

Hi!!
Thanks for replying I actually joined a gym recently, it's nothing like the rush where I would totally feel out of place, its a gym within a hospital. I went a few weeks everyday and walked a few miles .. I lost 12 pounds in a few weeks and I know I can get back into it, I just seem to forget about my diet when I see carbs lol which that will totally change now! I can do about 1000 calories a day, I've done that in the past and worked well. Once I started exercising daily, my food intake really went down, I wasn't hungry most of the time. I also read that exercise will reduce your food intake by 75% and I sure do believe that. Again thank you for replying and looking forward to talking more with you!

Welcome Amber!
I have never heard that people eat less when exercising, for me I feel like I get *more* hungry if I work out! That's lucky if you don't. 12 pounds is a great start, you should put that on your little hamburger tracker!
I do think 1000 calories is a bad idea though. I have always heard and read that 1200 is the minimum you should aim for, because eventually your body will start to be more efficient and get used to your calorie level, and you don't want to end up slowing your metabolism too much. Plus, how long can you really keep up 1000 calories a day? It's probably more realistic to aim for more like 1700 so you can keep it up for the whole year. Myself I've been doing 1600 calories a day for about 4 months and I don't feel like I would be as patient with less food. Also, I too love carbs!
I can relate to you about previous failures, but for me the key to success this time (4 months on track is my record so far!) is that I'm thinking of it as something I need to keep up forever. In the past I'd work too hard and burn out after a couple months, now I'm being moderate and really feeling great about my regime and ready to keep it up another year or two. All it takes is determination and you will totally be down 100 pounds in a year!
~Monique

Welcome aboard Amber!
Exercise has the same effect on me -- kills the urge to snack or eat.
There've been hikes where I've been totally spent and could barely choke down a couple bites of a sandwich. I ate because I knew I needed it, but I really had no desire to eat.

Morning guys!
Nice meeting you Monique and Michael! I'll try to add on some more calories, but yeah when I exercise my appetite goes down the drain. I will go up to 1500 calories a day and see how I do. I must get going though, have a early class today and going to the gym around noon
Have a great day!
Amber

Welcome Amber, Exercise has the same effect on me it makes me not want to snack at all when I first started my dieting I actually started exercising when I would feel the urge to snack and it actually worked pretyt well.
I agree with Monique I wouldn't go with 1000 calories it can really mess up your metabolism. I actually have lost a lot better once I started making sure I got all my calories in it really seemed to help me.

Welcome Amber, I'll pile on saying I think 1,000 cals/day is too low. I think it's hard to stick with something for a long time if it's really strict. 100lbs in a year is definitely doable, and a realistic goal. Good luck.

I think there might be a little miscommunication going on, when you say you can do 1000 calories a day, do you mean you're eating 1000 calories a day or you're creating a calorie deficit of 1000 calories a day?

Hi!!
Well when I exercise, I really don't get too hungry and I tend to consume 1000-1100 calories a day, I know I need to get more then that and I'm working on it
Have a good day!!
