| Newbie Hello all,
Finally started a diet Monday. 4 days down but many more to go. My weight has been creeping upwards since I started college 13 years ago and is basically now out of control. Generally, it keeps me from the activities I love to do but am in too poor shape to pursue. I have tried dieting before but the longest I have stuck it out is 2 months. I really need this change to my lifestyle.
How do you all deal with the cravings, which I can tell are going to be very difficult to fight off? Also, how often do you weigh yourselves? I have heard a lot of mixed opinions on this. I am looking forward to moving ahead with this and already feel better after only 4 days with noticeably less fluid retention by the end of the day.
Thanks in advance for the support.

Thanks in advance for the support. | I only weigh myself once a week....there's too many random fluctuations to get good data weighing yourself daily.
As far as cravings, there's a million ways to fight them.
Eat slower, it'll make you feel more full from eating less.
Drink more water.....that will also make you feel more full.
Stay active, don't sit around. When you sit around you're more likely to eat.
Don't buy crap at the store. If you don't buy it you can't eat it.
Find someone to compete with to lose weight...humans are competitive by nature, and that might make you want to win!
Put a picture of you looking your best and looking your worst on the fridge, that will be motivation not to open that door.
Write things down (what you plan on eating). It's easier to eat the right things for some if they have a guide to follow. There's much more than this, you should read around for some good tips!
I like to look at this: Just one pound of fat.

Thanks in advance for the support. | You nailed it. Lifestyle change is the way to go! I couldn't be happier with mine! I don't support my cravings. I cut out all fast food and as much restaurant food as possible. If you don't put yourself in these bad situations you're not going to eat as much yukky stuff, right? I also stopped buying bad stuff at the store.
My motivation is that this is for a better me and for my family. I owe it to them.

Thanks in advance for the support. | Hi there Isadose,
Welcome to our community. You have come to a great place for education and support, and even recipes. As for your questions, I only weigh myself once a week. Daily weighing can drive you crazy since the body has so many fluctuations. My experience with cravings have taught me that they go away after a while. Once your body adjusts to your new food program, the cravings will most likey stop. Also, your body won't react well to the foods that you are likely craving. Ex. sugar, salt, fat etc. Remember, nothing will taste as good as being healthy will feel. Take one day at a time, or start with one meal at a time, but the key here is you started. Good for you. Best of luck on your journey. I look forward to seeing your progress. |

| Re: Newbie I am new here too. First post. I am not ready to post weight, let's just say I have more weight to lose than what Nicole Richie weighs 5 months pregnant. I am enjoying knowing that there is a community of other people facing the same day to day struggles.
I don't weigh every day cause if I have worked hard and am not rewarded, I may give myself an excuse to binge. |
