Hi My name is Kate

I typed a nice long intro post and I was rejected so I will make this short and sweet

I have joined this forum in hopes to help and be helped.
I am on a mission to find a "cure" for my carb cravings. These are both physical and emotional. But the physical (gnawing stomach) is the one that is pulling me under everytime. So If anyone knows if a magic potion or what to remove from my diet. Please let me know.
I know that some of it is stress related and have tried chromium picolinate a long time ago and it did not work. Ia m going to try again thought
Thanks and look forward to a great give and take relationship
Kate

Welcome to the site Kate! Trust me when I say there are no magic potions/pills that are a cure all. Most of the diet pills out there are only meant to supplement healthy eating and exercise, there is no "take this pill and watch the weight fly off" option.

We can help you set up a healthy eating plan for yourself and show you waht you have to eat in order to lose the right amount of weight to help you acheive your goals, but at the end of the day you have to be willing to make the commitment to follow it. It helps to avoid buying these bad carb filled items at the store in the first place. If they're not in your house, you're not going to be able eat them, right?

There are also some other tricks that people emplore to help them out with weight loss, such as:
  • Eating your food VERY slow
  • Putting a picture of how you looked at your worst and at your best on the fridge or where your snacks are as a deterrant to eating more. Some people do the same with scales instead of pictures.
  • Drink A LOT of water. Not only is it good for you, but it gives you a slight feeling of fullness. I recommend a gallon a day if you can pull it off.
  • Write the nutritional breakdown of what you are eating (calories, carbs, fat, protein) so you can visually see what you are eating.
  • Getting rid of junk food, ditching regular sodas, etc, as those are a major source of calories.

Re: New Member

Hi thanks for the welcome and the tips - maybe I was wrong to write the I was looking for something magic but it is very frustrating to be in the diet mode and feel like you can control your intake but your body is fighting you with almost a nausea like gnawing that is only satified with high carb eating. I did not always have this it - I was tried low carb eating before and this physical problem was non-existent.
So I guess in short I am looking for hints and ideas to aid me when I feel this way.

Try not to think of this as diet mode, but a long term lifestyle change. Force yourself to eat more protein and drink more fluids and I bet your body won't crave as much in the carb department. Why not make a list of what your meals/snacks are supposed to be each day? A lot of people find it easier to follow what's written down on paper. Again, you're going to have to ween yourself off all these carbs eventually to achieve your goals. Have you considered keeping track of what you eat for a week to figure out what you personally eat carbwise on an average day, and then setting goals for yourself each week?

For example if you eat 200g of carbs each dayon average, then only allow yourself 190g of carbs each day the next week, then 180g the week after that, etc.

Going right to a low carb diet from your high carb lifestyle would be very difficult. Slow and steady is going to win the race for you in the long run. You don't have to quit everything you do cold turkey overnight.

Something else to consider, is that many people who consume a lot of artificial sweeteners report having an even higher craving for carbs/sweets. I'm not sure if that impacts you.

You came to the right place for help! everyone here is so wonderful! (Especially me )

Since stress is a culprit can you look for ways to reduce stress? Some of us find it useful to vent here and get support, and there is always good ol exercise to help your stress, do you have hobbies? I think if you can alleviate a little stress you can make your weight loss efforts easier!

I concur on the slow and steady, remember this is a lifestyle change you want to make for the long run, not some crash diet. The hardest thing is to cut something out completely all at once.

Have you identified ways to cure your stress? I think that should be a point of focus as well, in addition to a change in eating habits.

Welcome to the group

welcome to our obesity forum!

i drink extra water and eat extra protein and that helps my carb cravings. i also try to make the carbs that i eat high glycemic in nature, because high glycemic carbs take longer to digest making you feel full longer.

Re: New Member

Hey Kate, glad you gave things another try. This is a great place for give and take regarding weight loss. The only suggestion I have about the carb cravings comes from my personal experience. If I eat something salty, then I crave something sweet, so I have cut my salt intake way back. The other thing that has helped me is eliminating bad carbs and eating complex carbs instead. (At least most of the time!) I hope these ideas will help. If not, I am sure other members will have thoughts to share. Good luck and welcome.
