| New Member I found this website the other day when I was looking for ideas to jump start my good intentions to begin living healthier. I read through a number of posts and I was so impressed with the support and good words everyone had for one another. I am a happy person in general. I have a great family (barring the normal dysfunction), a good job (that has its stresses) and wonderful friends (that live 1600 miles away). My Husband and I have been less than happy with our weights for a number of years. We started weight watchers together a year ago last August. I lasted 4 months and really got no where while my husband soared and became a lifetime member with a 100 pound weight loss. I am so proud and pleased for him but I want that to happen for me tooooo. I understand the eating thing, I just suffer the self motivation to get my body moving in the direction I know it needs to go (off the couch and on to the treadmill). I am incredibly gifted at putting everyone and everything else ahead of me. I welcome words of wisdom and thoughts to motivate me to get going. I just turned 37 and want to see 38 in a new way. As a family we enjoy traveling and want to take a cruise next year. I want to be able to wear a swimsuit and enjoy myself instead of feeling self-conscious.

We do our best to be a great support group for one another and to motivate each other.
Weight watchers and other diets are really only meant to be a short term solution, and at the end of the day you have to be willing and ready to commit to a lifestyle change, which as you already know ideally includes exercise and good eating habits.
So it seems like you have a goal in mind, and there is no reason you cannot achieve it. Whether you decide you want to accomplish your goals with only eating changes or both eating and exercise changes, we can help you figure out exactly what you need to do to meet your weight loss goals in time for your cruise. We'd be more than happy to help with that.
We also have a lot of motivational tips that we suggest, such as putting your worst picture and a picture of when you looked your best smack dab on the refridgerator so you look at it every time you're tempted to open that fridge to overeat.
Of course little things help too such as drinking extra water (a gallon a day) and eating your food much slower.
Oh, and welcome!

if you are ready mentally to commit yourself to this you can make it happen. and the best part is we will all be here to cheer you on throughout your journey!
soomething that maybe you should do is frame your mindset to go after smaller goals, say 10-20lbs at a time. it is much easier to work towards a mini goal or milestone so to speak than it is to shoot for triple digit numbers!
i also believe that for some people it is easier for some people to make one change at a time. say start with dropping soda out of your lifestyle. then the next week or 2 weeks later remove other sugarry sweets. then a week or two later remove fast food/eating out. you get the idea.
we wish yo uthe best of luck no matter how you decide to go about this!

| Re: New Member It's funny that you talk about Soda. It is one of the things that i believe is a problem. I have troubles with migraines and have a lot of restrictions on what i can eat and drink. I can't have any artificial sweeteners (at all) and I cant have anything with MSG or Chocolate. These are the major things. there are lots of little things like split peas etc... that bring them on. by changing what i eat and drink I was able to get off all the daily medicine that I had been on. I like being drug free but i find that I love soda. I imagine that I really need to start there . Well I suppose there is no day like today to make that commitment. Wish me well as I am traveling for work this week and that will make it more interesting.....

Wish me well as I am traveling for work this week and that will make it more interesting..... | Traveling does make it harder. I spent the last 4 years of my career traveling 100% of the time. It's tough, but it takes willpower. I used to travel with my protein shakes for breakfast and boxes of protein bars for snacks while I was on the plane or at my client site.
Since you'll be eating out more often, it will be up to you to take control.
Soda does have a huge impact, because it's loaded in sugar. Just curious, could you give us an idea of the types of foods/drinks/condements you eat in a normal day?

soda is a killer!
i would think you would not drink soda with migraines because caffeine makes migraines worse does it not?
i would die without sweeteners.
