:eek4: 8lbs since Tuesday morning? Same scale? Same time of day? I would definitely say this is not normal! Some of it has to be water weight. What were you eating before vs. after calorie wise?

i tried the vegan route briefly and could not live without my meat. it did not last very long. i too noticed i lost good weight during that time.

Yowza, that's a huge first few days! I'm guessing a lot of it is water weight, or maybe you weighed yourself at different times? Not sure.
How are you holding up so far?

I am now 306.2 | Hi vegan314, so glad you decided to join us. I am not sure what the difference is between a vegetarian and a vegan, but I assume a vegan diet is even more restrictive. I wish you every success with this new endeavor. Losing a lot of weight in a short amount of time at the beginning of a weight loss program is pretty common. However, if the rapid weight loss continues, you should see a Dr. Losing slowly is key to staying healthy and keeping the weight off. Best wishes for continued success. |

| Re: I'm mellllting ! Hello everyone, thank you for the encouraging posts.
The main difference in those first few day was that I cut out all meat, dairy and eggs. And continue to do so.
That is the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan. Vegans eat NO animal products. No eggs, dairy, meat. Also no whey, cassein, rennet etc. that are added to food products or to make cheese...the rennet.
I also got off my big lazy butt and walked. I went to the store on day 1 and was on my feet for 3 hours straight walking. It was at a slow pace but went through Lowes, Walmart AND Kroger, then to the little health food store.
I am eating more than I ever have. All plant based with just a little oil here and there.
I eat alot of grains, complex carbs, plants, fruit.
Since I have posted I have had, white chili, eggplant parmesean, general tso's "chicken", "meatballs" and gravy over potatoes, Taco's, beans and rice, potato salad, pancakes, "omelettes" stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, onions and soy cheese, bran muffins, stuffed peppers, "tuna" salad....the list goes on. So I can't see where I am really restricted. I did not get this big because I hate to eat...lol. So things have to taste good for me to stick with it...and everything I have made so far has been surprisingly good. I take a multi vitamin a day, spiruleina and B-12.
Not sure what I am missing by not eating meat....except for the saturated fat, cholesterol, hormones, anti-biotics, pesticides, steroids,e. coli, salmonella....did PLENTY of homework on this stuff believe me. And as far as "protein?" welllll I am getting my share from the same place the cows, horses, gorillas, elephants and all theose big muscular animals get theirs. Funny how they are so big and healthy on a meat free diet. I had never really thought of it before.
I have been keeping to my new way of eating, my husband also.
Last Tuesday when I weighed in I had lost a total of 12.5 pounds so it did slow down a bit. But I think thats still pretty good for 2 weeks. I will weigh in again tomorrow.
Larry has lost 6 pounds, but he is not as heavy as I am.
We used to eat meat usually everyday although had cut out the red meat ( I know it ALL got big amounts of saturated fat now and the fish benifit shamefully is outweighed by the bad stuff in it now).
, also I baked using Splenda (will NEVER use that poison again) quite often
So just no processed stuff, no chemicals, and all plant based. The weight is coming off I feel better than I have in a long time and I am having fun cooking knowing I am clearing out my pipes.
Oh and I do weigh myself.. same scale, same time every Tues.morning, post poop and pre coffee...nekid.

Still not missing any of that meat stuff. And so glad to not have to worry about these latest ground beef recalls.
I've been doing alot of research on animal protein....wow, never realized what horrible things came from that.
So glad I am not over doing the amount I put in my bod.

Beef recalls? Any more details?

| Re: I'm mellllting ! I do not have enough posts to have links so I can only provide copy and paste stuff.
But here are a few that really opened my eyes to the greed behing what we are told is good for us.
And of course the recalls should be enough to make people realize what we are told is safe is greed based.
Look at the drug recalls AFTER "testing".
I know its hard to see what we are really eating, it may actually make you stop eating all that yummy stuff. But you are here for....your health? If you are not on this board for your health, then why?
I am interested in not being screwed over by the diet industry, health "care" practitioners who recieve less than 4 hours credit in nutrition and the impact on the body but who are more than happy to be there to push pills and take your $$ AFTER your way of eating and your excess weight has done you harm, the USDA, the farming/cattle/food industry who are additive crazy interested in shelf life and profits far more than what we are consuming, a goverment that lets lobbyists influence their common sense....the list goes on.
So I read, and I compare, and I study.
I am fat. I am also many other things. But there's one thing I am not anymore and that is as ignorant as I have been in the past.
pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/protein_myth.html
bodybuilding.com/fun/maia25.htm
milksucks.com/osteo.asp
Highly recommend checking out this site:pcrm.org Kidney disease: When people eat too much protein, they take in more nitrogen than they need. This places a strain on the kidneys, which must expel the extra nitrogen through urine. People with kidney disease are encouraged to eat low-protein diets. Such a diet reduces the excess levels of nitrogen and can also help prevent kidney disease. Cancer: Populations who eat meat regularly are at increased risk for colon cancer, and researchers believe that the fat, protein, natural carcinogens, and absence of fiber in meat all play roles. Osteoporosis: Diets rich in animal protein cause people to excrete more calcium than normal through their kidneys and increase the risk of osteoporosis. Countries with lower-protein diets have lower rates of osteoporosis and hip fractures.
More here about calcium, protein and osteoporosis:
msu.edu/~corcora5/food/vegan/osteo.html Kidney stones: Increased calcium excretion increases risk for kidney stones. Researchers in England found that when people added about 5 ounces of fish (about 34 grams of protein) to a normal diet, the risk of forming urinary tract stones increased by as much as 250 percent.
This is not from one or two sites, but numerous places on the web and books on health I have read.
Consuming excessive amounts of protein is hard on your body, does not create muscle, and sets you up for many health problems down the road.
A diet high in animal protein creates an acidic enviroment, your body uses calcium to neutralize this and leeches it from your calcium supply in your bone mass. Thus weakening your supply. Milk is full of animal protein so that in itself is a catch-22.
There are wonderful sources other than dairy for calcium.
There are great sources other than meat for protein that does not put a strain on your system.
Just cutting down on meat protein and upping plant source protein is beneficial.
Want to find out what your putting in your body? Read "Mad Cowboy" by Howard Lyman
Want to reverse diabeties instead of controlling it? read "Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes: The Scientifically Proven System for Reversing Diabetes Without Drugs "
Barnards book is what really started me on my new way of life.
