| Hi, new here Hi everyone,
I’m new here, so I thought I’d introduce myself. I am a 5’ 2” female and weigh approximately 175 pounds. I’m a senior in college, and my goal is to lose a significant amount of weight by my graduation in mid May. I want to look good for graduation and then hopefully start the next phase of my life with healthier habits and more confidence. I would love to be 135, but I am shooting for 145 by graduation because I think that is more realistic.
I think I’ve been in denial for a long time about how much weight I’ve gained in college. I have been overweight since I was 9 or 10, and by the end of high school I was around 148. I knew I had gained in the last few years, but I had convinced myself that I was still only around 160, my previous high. I’m home on break now, and weighing myself was a wake-up call because I have never been this heavy before.
My college has a great fitness facility, and I really want to take full advantage of it while I have the opportunity. They also offer some free workout classes that I plan to attend. I went to a twice-a-week abs class last spring semester, which was great, but unfortunately I didn’t stick with it (and neither did most people, judging from the shrinking size of the class each session). I’m going to do that again, and hopefully stick with it this time.
The eating right part of this may be tougher because I’m at the mercy of my meal plan, and the dining halls tend to serve a lot of fried and fatty foods. I’m going to try to stick to the healthier options and eat smaller portions.
I’m hoping that posting to this board will help me stick to my goals and that talking to you all will help keep me motivated.
I look forward to talking with you all.

I look forward to talking with you all. | Welcome and you can hit your goals no problem, plenty of time! You're going to need to lose about 2lbs a week to hit your goals, which means you need to create a calorie deficit of about 1000 calories a day on average......i.e. eating 1000 calories less than your body burns.
Do you have to eat the meal plan? Are there other food options?

| Re: Hi, new here Hi, thanks for the reply. I do have to eat the meal plan, since I live on campus, but there are some healthier options that I'm going to explore. My friends and I tend to eat in the most convenient dining hall, but the food there is often the least healthy. There is another dining hall that serves healthier options (and better food). In the past I've been too lazy to walk there since it's far from my dorm, but I am going to try to do that next semester (and the bit of exercise to get there is an added bonus).
Thanks for the calorie advice. I think my goal is definitely doable, especially if I stick to the exercise.

As far as the calories go, in order to achieve that type of deficit each day you'd need to figure out how many calories a day your body burns given your current activity levels, and then if you want, you can try to adjust the calories you consume each day so you achieve those deficits. We can help you figure out how many calories your body burns and how many you'll want to consume each day on average if you like.
