| Hi! I'm a noob... Hi, I'm new to the forum. My name is Erin, I'm 21 years old, 5'7" and I'm from British Columbia, Canada. I officially weigh more than I have ever weighed in my life, so it is time for me to adjust some bad habits.
The good stuff: I currently eat lots of chicken, fish and beef (without any fatty condiments.) I haven't had any form of fast food since I was about 14 years old. Same goes for pop (or I guess I should say cola for all you guys down south..) I have a 100 lb dog who requires, at a minimum, one two hour walk a day. Every two-three days I take him on a half hour run in addittion to his daily walk.
The bad: I am addicted to candy. Not chocolatey stuff, but the gummy sweet stuff. It's my one bad habit I cannot kick. Also, two years ago I stopped going to the gym. I used to go 5 days a week, but my dad passed away and I just didn't want to do anything. I have recently started going back, but find it hard to go more than one or two days a week on top of taking my dog out for some cardio.
So it's time for me to drop 30 lbs!
-Erin

Welcome to the site! That candy is a killer, and you'd be surprised how big of an impact it's having. How are your other eating habits? Since you just started going back to the gym, a 5 day a week regimen would be tough right away, maybe you can work back into that eventually, eh?

| Re: Hi! I'm a noob... The only other really bad habit I have is skipping breakfast. I have morning classes at school, so I tend to sleep in an extra 15 minutes rather than get up and eat. I work at Starbucks, so I used to get too much excess sugar in the way of all the free beverages, but I've started switching to water & tea instead of the sugary alternative.
Everything else I eat is pretty healthy. My mom is a health nut and does a lot of the cooking. I eat sushi twice a week, which is a lot of rice. That's about it.. Rice + Candy = me with a large ass.

| Re: Hi! I'm a noob... Nah, I'm going to try... but that is my one downfall. I've tried to give it up before, but it's sort of like an addiction. I think I'm going to go out and buy LOTS of gum... (sugar free gum) and just force myself to chew gum instead of eat candy. I tend to eat candy while studying, so maybe if I chew gum instead it will help me kick the candy habit.

| Re: Hi! I'm a noob... I have a similar problem (except it's chocolate instead of candy ) and sugar free gum does really help. The fruity flavors of orbit are my favorite study buddies because they are so good.
Another thing that really helps me is to put one chocolate on my shelf and write something like "Do not open until you know you have studied enough to make an A on this test!!" or something like that. Then I have incentive to study and I satisfy my craving. I also make sure that I only have a small portion out, and I put the rest of the bag on the top shelf of my closet, so that I won't be tempted to eat the whole thing!
Good Luck!

| Re: Hi! I'm a noob... I have to force myself to stop keeping it around altogether, because no matter where I hide it, I still know its there and will go to whatever trouble it takes to find it.
I'm starting a cleanse on Monday. I bought it from this health/organic grocery store chain we have. Basically I can eat most vegetables, or almonds just about whenever I want, I can have chicken twice in a 12 day period along with some other foods, fish for dinner just about every day, some fruits some days, and rice every other day (for dinner only). It also came with vitamins to replace any nutrients my diet will be lacking. Hopefully this will jump start my new no candy diet!
