| Hi everyone! Nice to meet you all! I'm Steph, I'm 25, just got married in October, and very glad to have found you all here!
Just a little tidbit on me - I've been overweight my whole life, and am trying to think of this as the first day of a healthier me. I got a job offer today for a job I'm very excited about, but it turns out one of my references brought up my weight issue to my new employer . My reference was my old boss, who one day decided to have an "intervention" with me - like they were breaking the news to me that I'm overweight, as if I had no idea. Then I'd find helpful magazine articles cut out and put on my desk and other such things. So he told my new employer he was concerned about me, and my new employer decided to share his support for me right away. I mean, it's with the best of intentions, but it's like they don't understand the anxiety it's going to cause me feeling like I'm being put under the microscope (megascope?) right away. So I'm teetering between being very angry, horrified, and depressed when I should be happy about getting this job.
Sorry about that, I needed to vent...I don't think people understand how intensely personal weight loss is, and that it can't be done on anyone's terms but my own, or for anyone's reasons but my own. That being said, I've joined Curves (which I love!), and my husband and I are trying to eat healthier. My dog is also very appreciative of the extra activity outside and the good weather.
Anywho, I appreciate finding a community of folks who "understand", and I look forward to getting to know all of you! Thanks for everything! |

Your last employer did not seem to know how to address this issue in the slightest, but it already sounds as if your new employer supports you! If anything you should be extatic that you have this new job that supports you even more! You seem to have a lot of positives going for you now between the new job, husband eating healthier together with you which is very helpful....having a partner makes it easier! Did you get a trainer at Curves? Do you have a buddy going or are you going solo? Thanks for sharing all this and I'd love to hear more about your weight loss goals!

You're right - things are going in the right direction for me. I hope they keep going that way!
I don't have a trainer at Curves, besides just the staff that is there to help people make sure they're using the machines right. I'm not going with anyone either - but the environment there is so fun...it's just a bunch of women, and there's talking, and gossiping, and one time the staff person read trivia questions from a game while we were working out. I've really enjoyed it, so it makes it easy to go work out.
I've been reading through the posts here, and it's a wonderful forum! Thanks for all the hard work you do. It's so wonderful to have a resource like this. |

Everyone here is so nice!!!
Curves is circuit training - a half hour of machines alternated with aerobic exercise. They're hydraulic machines, so as I understand it, since you push and pull on the hydraulic things, you work both sets of muscle groups simultaneously, and you don't have to stop and adjust machines or anything. It moves so quickly, it's over before you know it, and everyone's just so friendly. I never thought I'd enjoy working out before, but I really have liked it there.
If you guys haven't heard of Curves before, check out their website. They explain the whole workout better than I can.
It really does me good to see everyone's "tickers" - it's so awesome to see that people are making real progress! Gives me the feeling that I can do it too. |
