| Hi all. Hi everyone. I'm new to the site and am just starting out on my life changing journey to a new healthier me. I've finally decided to make the changes I need in order to be healthier. Until recently I hadnt realized just how much my weight was affecting my health. I've had asthma since I was 11 but it has never been bad till this last year. I've had to start using my inhaler on a a weekly basis, sometimes more often. I've been diagnosed with sleep apnea and am having to use a cpap at night because i stop breathing in my sleep. All this and more all because I got lazy and let myself go. But now i'm going to change all that. My boyfriend and I are going to start the South Beach Diet and I'm thinking about joining tan & tone for the robotic exercise machines for a while till I can do more. I bought an elliptical trainer but after about 5 minutes on it I can barely breath and my knees hurt so bad I want to cry. But I'm going to keep at it.

| Re: Hi all. The elliptical machine is hurting your knees? I'm surprised to hear that, it's known for being one of the easiest exercise machines around!! What made you decide to do the South Beach Diet? I eat a lot of their foods, but don't follow their diet per se.
Welcome!!

| Re: Hi all. I used to really, really hate the elliptical too because it hurt my knees. You probably have poor posture and an odd stride, it's trying to force you into the "correct" path of motion and its hurtnig your knees. |

yeah i do have poor posture you are probably right about it correcting but i also messed up my knees when i was younger riding a bicycle that was to small with cross thredded pedals twisted my knees at weird angles i've had problems with my knees since then if i walk up and down stairs to much my knees start swelling up on me

Good luck with your weightloss. That's great your boyfriend is going to eat healthier with you. It's always easier when you have someone to support you

| Re: Hi all. Yeah I've tried to change the way i eat before, but I was the only one in the house that was changing the way they ate. Everyone else was still eating burgers and onion rings and pizza and all the stuff that I shouldnt eat anyways because of my stomach problems. It made it very difficult and I felt all alone with it. But he's promised me he'll do it with me. I'm just not sure how dedicated to it he is. And I know the fact that he is always out of town and out at oil rigs will make it even harder for him than it is for me.

My friends and family all gave me crap for being healthy. It wasn't easy, but they all complement me on how I look now, so it was worth the ridicule.

It's definetly easier when someone is doing it with you, but remember you're doing this for you!

| Re: Hi all. I also have psychosomatic asthma and take my inhaler twice a day (morning an night) and I know exatcly how you feel. I don't have anyone to do this with me, but I'm doing it for myself and although I'm doing it alone, I have lots of support for my friend and family. I recently bought a treadmill and now I'm taking it very slowly. The first week all I did was walk normally for about 30/40min because of my asthma, but actually i didn't have any shortness of breath. I felt pretty good with myself. Now I'm taking baby steps.
Just remember, you're doing this for you and no one elso.
Keep your head up!
