| Hi all. Just wanted to stop and say hi and introduce myself a bit since I hadn't yet.
I'm almost 27, married, with a 8 year old and a 3 year old.
I'm a private duty nurse, which really means I sit and watch Matlock all day with elderly people.
I'm making an attempt to lose 75lbs or so and feel better about myself. My goal as of now is just to lose as much as I can by the time we go to the beach in May. I know I can't take off all of it by then... but I just want to see what I can do.
So far, I'm managing the 'slowly but surely' method, but I'd like to do better. I came in hoping for some and advice and maybe a little encouragment... anything to keep me from giving up.
Looking forward to meeting everyone....

Welcome! Glad to have you aboard! So how much Matlock can one really watch?
Down to the nitty gritty, how exactly have you changed your lifestyle so far in an effort to lose those pounds you hope to drop? Eating changes? Exercise changes?

Exercise changes? | First of all, I cut out fast food almost completely. I've had fast food maybe three times since I started and that's only because I really didn't have a choice.
I've been cutting calories, but not doing the best I could. I've done great this week and I started writting everything down today. I hope that'll help me do better. I'm also trying real hard to phase out soda and get all my water in everyday.
I'm also working out for an hour 5 days a week. I have a DVD that I'm doing and it's super-hardcore for me. I'm adding some Yoga to it to make it the whole hour.
I've been at it for two months, but really serious for the last month. I've lost 6 pounds... *sigh* Such hard work, but I'm doing it.

Just curious, about how many calories have you been eating on an average day? Have you been keeping track of that or just writing down the food.
Your exercise routine looks stout.

I just started writing it down today, but I know I've cut back a lot.
I've been trying to eat things I know are low in calories and fat. Tuna, veggies, oatmeal and such. I'm a sucker for a bagel, though, and potatoes are the devil. I don't really like red meat and I hate bacon, so I'm not sure what other protein options I have... I guess I'm playing it by ear. That's why I need your help. LOL.
When it comes down to it, numbers confuse me. I'm hoping carrying a notebook will help me keep it somewhat in check.

| Re: Hi all. Bagels are usally pretty high in calories as I'm sure you are aware.....regarding protein fish/seafood is great, so is chicken, and if you're OK with it, lean pork. Maybe a protein shake would be a good addition to your daily regimen. Soy, nuts and milk are good for a little extra protein as well.
Something you may want to consider later on doing is keeping track of the calories in the food you are eating. That way you can actually determine if you are eating the right amount of food in order to achieve your weight loss goals. One of the things we can do here is tell you on average how many calories you'll want to eat each day in order to lose those 70 or so pounds by May.

| Re: Hi all. Ok, so I went out today and got a calorie counters book.
I have no idea what I was eating before I started writing it down, but yesterday's total was 1535 cal. I don't know about the fat count.
Today I've had:
8 a.m.: 2 cups of coffee, 1 w/ coffeemate 20cal/1gfat/2carb
1 black 5cal/1carb
Breakfast: 2 soft boiled eggs 150cal/9gfat
6oz glass of orange juice 110cal/9gfat
16oz bottle of water
1 multi-vitamin
Lunch: 1 medium apple 90cal/23carb
16oz bottle of water
Dinner: 1 small cheeseburger (already fixed for me when I got home ) No mayo or anything, just cheese 330cal/14gfat/35carb
(based on a MickD's cheeseburger, cause I figure it's about the same)
1 cup coffee with cream 20cal/1gfat/2carb
1 can diet coke 1cal
(already waiting for me , but I didn't drink it all)
Now I'm working on my third bottle of water. I guess that's not too awful bad so far.... My real problem will be about midnight. I'm a bit of a night owl and I seem to get hungry in the middle of the night. That's when my willpower does me wrong...
Also, if the husband has dinner waiting on me when I get home, I feel like an a$$ if I tell him I'm not eating what he cooked. I try to eat smaller portions, but I can't be outright rude to him...
So what do you think?

So what do you think? | Great calorie total for yesterday! Have you talked to hubby about your weight loss efforts? Maybe you could tell him he doesn't need to cook for you for a while because of your new eating program? It's awesome that he's trying to be nice, so you don't want him to be insulted of course.
If you have to eat something late at night, try a low calorie protein shake! That's one of those great late night snack....I also like to eat nothing but protein at night since protein fills me up better than carbs. I eat very low fat cheeses, some beef jerky, a few slices of ham/turkey, etc.

Yeah, he knows and he is super supportive, but there wasn't a lot to choose from... at least he didn't load me up with mayo! I only eat red meat once in a blue moon and he worries about it, so if he fixes me a burger occasionally I'll eat it and he'll be happy. That's what tonight was about.
How about tuna at night? Is that suitable? I'm shooting for nothing, but I can't workout until about nine, and it seems like I'm starving a couple hours later.
I used to eat cheese pizza at midnight, or 2 packs of ramen noodles... How horrible is that?!
Oh and thanks for the help. I appreciate it more than you know...

Oh and thanks for the help. I appreciate it more than you know... | Tuna is perfect! I frequently crack open a can of Star Kiss Tuna and go to town. Seafood (non-fried of course) is a great late night snack.
Maybe you can sneak him hints as far as what you want him to make for ya ahead of time.
