| Hello from the Emerald Isle!! Hello everyone I've been lurking for a while and I decided to register so that I can get support for my weight loss journey!
I wanted to give a big shout out and Hello to everyone, your stories are so inspiring and I wanted to ask you all a question; Do you think counselling has any benefits to aiding your weight loss. Oprah seems convinced that over eating is a cry for help but I don't have a dark traumatic past! I just weigh 280 Lbs!
The killer is in 2006 I lost 98 Lbs but couldn't maintain it and piled EVERY Lb back on!!! It is soul destroying cause it gave me a glimpse of the person I really want to be.
I lost it through a total meal replacement diet - it didn't teach me to be disciplined with my food so it was so quick to come back on!!
Lookimg forward to meeting you all |

I think for some people counseling is a good idea. I'm not sure about everyone but alot of times people add weight on kind of as a buffer between them and the real world or whatever it is that causes them emotional pain. Like me I didnt gain weight until I divorced my x husband. It was like if I was fat I didnt have to worry about if someone would hurt me again because no one would want a fat girl anyways. And I didnt purposly get fat. I actually hardly ate. But I did slowly gain the weight. I stopped exercising and when I did eat it wasnt healthy, lots of fried food and icecream when I did eat. Ok sorry I'm rambling again. But yeah counseling can aide some people in their weight loss if they are emotional eaters or non-eaters. You just gotta find out why you over eat if you over eat or why you arent willing to exercise and eat healthy.

Lookimg forward to meeting you all | By Oprah's theory she'd be in and out of counciling all the time since her weight fluxuates more than the stock market.
I'm not buying the cry for help thing though, I think everyone has different reasons for doing it. Have you decided how you plan on losing the weight this time?

Lookimg forward to meeting you all | So glad you decided to join us. Our members are so caring and helpful, yet they tell it like it is when they need to. As for the Oprah thing with counseling, I guess it would be helpful for some people, but not necessary for others. If you truly haven't had any major trauma in your life, I'd skip it. Instead, maybe seeing a nutritionist, or a weight loss Doctor, or joining a gym/health club would be beneficial. I have come to the conclusion that losing weight has to be something that you want more than you want to eat. Since losing weight is a long slow process, if it is done correctly, it has to be the main goal in your life for a while so you can really concentrate on "NOT" dieting, but changing your lifestyle. Then it will be more likely that your weight loss will be permanent. You sound like you are really ready to make this change. You can do it. Pick an eating plan, exercise and start the first day of the rest of your life with a smile. It will be soooo worth it! I can't wait to read about your success along the way. |

Didn't she get molested as a child or something like that? Some life trauma before she became the richest woman on earth...
I personally don't agree with the cry for help theory though. Every person gained their weight for different reasons. Some people just love food and over-eat way too much, some people have low self esteem and took it out on their bodies, some people gained due to health reasons, etc. But I don't think gaining to get attention from others is on that list.
