| Hello from new member biggirl Hello I am new to the forums and just wanted to say hi. I live in Australia, in a remote mining town. I have been obese since the age of 20, and now I am classed as morbidly obese ++++. I am struggling to cope with the stresses of being obese, and was pleased to come across this forum as I feel in need of some discussion with others in similar situations to me. I hope to enjoy the many different forums that this site has. Biggirl |

When I say remote, I mean that we are about 700km from the nearest major capital city. I have lived here all my life. Nice place, but it is difficult to get the services we need, such as medical, and other stuff. If we need any major treatment we have to travel to Perth, the capital, to receive it. The hospital here has now decided that mothers -to -be who are over a certain weight need to travel to Perth to have their babies as it is too big a risk to have them here. It is hard to get professionals to come to this area, as it is desert and the nearest beach is a 4 hour drive, and basically a lot of professionals decide not to come here. I must say I am also scared that should anything serious happen to me that I would die before I could be treated, and a doctor has also suggested this to me. I weigh 260 kg!

biggirll | As long as you have internet you don't need any of that other stuff, you know food, running water, etc.
That sure is a long journey to have a kid....which I assume would have to be a planned C-Section birth.
Have you been thinking about how you would like to lose weight, whether it be becoming more active physically or changing your eating habits?

| Re: Hello from new member biggirl In regards to the women having to go to Perth for the birth of their babies, no it is not just planned C-sections. Any woman over a certain weight, can't remember what now needs to travel to a major public hospital. The doctors here are refusing to care for them.
In regards to my weight, I have over the years tried various things, stomach stapling and I loss about 31 kg's I was just 220 kg when I had that surgery! I have had extensive psychological therapy, which was very good, but it did not have the desired result. At them moment I am feeling very sick and sorry for myself and feel that I am at a cross roads and as yet have not decided what the next plan is.
I have certainly got myself into some trouble with this excess weight and I am paying the ultimate penalties.

I am good at venting I do it quite often. I am not sure if I have the power and control to do things differently yet, but I am always ready to give things a go
I am yet to see what this whole site has but it looks good from what I have seen.

I love to read, just finding the time to do it is the problem. I work full time and have a husband and 4 kids living at home with me
I have read quite a bit over the years on my 'problem', though I am always willing to read new stuff.

So really you have 5 kids at home. Working full time and dealing with that many people at home is amazing! I do not know how you do it.

| Re: Hello from new member biggirl LOL Yes you would think that i could do this easy after raising 5 daughters and a husband Unfortunatley though it seems that I have yet to conquer this thing i have with overeating. I go through periods of feeling so desperate and depressed that I almost consider having another operation. But then I come to my senses and realise that it did not work for me last time and so it probably would not work another time
It is something that I have tried control, but what ever drives me to overeat, eludes me at present
I know what to eat, and what to avoid, I seem to have no willpower.
It amazes me that I was able to go to university as a mature age student, (with 5 kids, all at school) and study for my degree, and even do postgraduate studies and yet still not be able to control my weight issues. Humans are so amazing

biggirl | Everyone has their vices, especially to cope with stress. Some people just have to keep thier mouth active. I'm one of them. I started drinking more water (which made me feel more full) and chewing gum a lot and that seemed to help a bit.
I also found that sitting in my house made me want to eat more. I started getting out of the house and therefore I couldn't eat as much. You also can control what you buy at the grocery store. If you don't buy garbage you can't eat it now can ya?
