Welcome to the site, eh!
OK, sorry, I had to get that out. I love saying it.
Glad to have you here with us! Low carb has worked well for many of us in the past including myself! We have a ton of atkins low carb recipes on the site in case you hadn't noticed, and they are so tasty!
Have you set any goals for yourself?

I've done Atkins in the past and did well on it. I lost 50 pounds.
Sadly however I regained that 50 back plus more so I need to get back on it.
The only goals I have presently are just to stick to the first two weeks. I have problems with cheating too much and must get that under control.
After the two weeks is close to being over I will think about another goal....probably just getting through another two weeks.
P.S. Braveheart is one of my favourite movies as I am part Scottish. |

Some people find it easier to commit to healthy eating if they write down what they should be eating for each day ahead of time.

I'm a big fan of British Comedy. | Hamilton is between London and Toronto is it not? I bet it is gorgeous this time of year!
I have had good success with low carb and it is hard to stick to it that's for sure! There are some REALLY yummy desserts and tasty atkins low carb treats in the recipe section, and those have helped me behave myself a bit better!

| Re: Hello from Canada Welcome!!! My only suggestion is that in being a previous Atkins advocate that if you don't follow it well it becomes the death diet packing on tons of pounds and throwing cholesterol through the ROOF and if you drop off you drop on all the weight you lost. Throw in a teeny bit of exercise with small dumbells just doing overhead raises and lifts etc along with as long of walks as you can and work up from there. YOU CAN DOOO EEEET!!!!

Some of the tings I am not fond of with Atkins is all the greasy food he suggests..like bacon and butter for a couple of examples. I just cannot eat those things anymore and I don't eat dairy because it causes me to have sinus congestion problems.
I also miss fruit and would like to eat way more then the allowed 3 cups of veggies. I never got fat eating veggies. In fact when I was on a diet with several servings of veggies and little fat I lost more weight in one month then I ever did on 5 months of Atkins.
I'm currently considering just making up my own plan...something that *I* can live with for the rest of my life centred around the foods I prefer to eat with a treat once in a while. Like a peice...ONE PEICE...of apple pie once a month...or a scoop of ice cream once a month. I figure a treat once a month will be enough for me and keep me on plan so I don't feel deprived.
I hear you on the exercise. This past week I just got finished changing my bedroom around so I now have the space to put in a small area carpet to make up my own little exercise area. I'm also going to get 5 pounds weights to start some upper body exercises and going to start walking.
I also just bought a walking dvd (Leslie Sansone) to do in the livingroom when the days are bad weather days. The dvd has a one mile walk and a 2 mile walk on it.
I love your posts Mike. I've been reading them with great interest. |

I love your posts Mike. I've been reading them with great interest. | Good progress with getting an exercise program for yourself! Regarding Atkins, they do offer quite a bit of non-greasy non-dairy foods in addition to the greasy items. If you check our recipe section I'm sure you'll find quite a few that meet your needs. I'm all for eating veggies in large quantities but am a little leary of eating too much fruit due to the sugar in fruits. Moderation is key.
