| Hello!
Hey all,
So I'm new to this whole forum thing in general so bear with me. I'm a 23 year old recent college grad with a degree that = no jobs in my field with this economy. I'm working in retail as a cashier in the mean time, how fun...
As far as diets go I've been a complete failure on every one I've tried (low cal, low fat, portion control, etc) so far except one. The only diet I've ever succeeded on is when I worked at a pizza place for a summer and ate nothing but pizza all three months and miraculously lost about 30 pounds. Since then I put back on the 30 pounds plus some... I blame stress for some of that.
Anyway, currently I am trying out Atkins. A friend of mine has used it with amazing results for 7 months now. The reason I decided to follow suit is 1.) I can eat as much as want, just not certain things. 2.) I don't like fruit. I'm actually allergic to most of it, so there was no loss there. 3.) I only have to keep track of small numbers. I think these three reason are why I failed at all my other diets.
That's all I have time for right now, thanks for reading my intro!

Welcome to the site! Hope to hear more about your diet and success in the future.
I'm not sure I'd agree with the "I can eat as much as I want" statement, but basically, you eat enough to keep you full for a long long time.

Hi there, welcome to the boards! Sorry about the job hunt, what a difficult time to graduate college. Have you considered finding a recruiting agency? Also, have you considred doing temp work? I have had friends who have done temp work for a companies (sometimes its not so "temporary" , it can be a few month stint) and they've ended up getting hired fulltime by the company because they liked them.
Atkins huh. Ok, well, I've always recommended Atkins for anyone looking to lose weight FAST in the short term. It is a good motivator because you see instant results and can jumpstart your long term diet. By the way, you also end up kind of indirectly limiting your food intake because after about a week and a half, you are like, "UG, i dont want anymore cheese!!" and the food options are so limited.
However, most people dont think Atkins is a very healthy long term diet. I've always heard it is okay to do for a few weeks at most. After you finsih your Atkins, I would suggest just watching your carbs and trying to eat low carb in general. This means you can still have carbs, but being conscientious about how many you are consuming and the quality of the carbs (whole wheat versus processed, etc). All carbs are not equal! You will see that most of the people here watch their carb intake to some extent.
Keep us updated!

Yeah, I I'm already kinda at the 'ugh' point on the cheese lol. As for long term, I know you cant do this 'almost no carbs' thing for a long time, but I don't think it's all that bad if you are eating the right things. For example, for dinner the other night I had a chicken breast, a big pile of fresh spinach with sour cream ranch dip, and a cup of sugar free jello. I think that whole meal totaled like 4g carbs. I absolutely love leafy greens so thats making up a majority of my diet. My fiance on the other hand likes meat meat meat, so I'm working on him. Next week we are switching to under 20g of carbs, I think he'll be much happier then I already found a few new recipes to test out. (Maybe I'll even get him to eat cauliflower).

Omlettes are good for atkins....you can put your leafy greens in! So are certain soups. Salads too! There are A LOT of atkins recipes in the "recipe" section of the forums (scroll way down).

That's all I have time for right now, thanks for reading my intro! | How the heck did you lose 30lbs on a pizza diet?!?!? Crazy!!!
I eat what I like to call a modified atkins diet....I modeled a lot of my own eating habits after the diet. It's worked well for me with my fervor for heavy weight lifting and I've been able to keep the weight off without a hitch and maintain muscle.
Although you are on the atkins diet, don't think for a moment you can eat as much as you want and still lose weight. At the end of the day what causes you to lose weight is whether or not you've created a calorie deficit, which is eating few calories than you burn on average.
The big benefit of Atkins IMO is that pigging out on low quality carbs seems to be one of the main issues for people who are overweight. Cutting that out cuts out one of the major problems, and the high protein diet of Atkins helps people feel fuller longer.
The thing I don't like about the diet is the lack of concern for saturated fats.
Part of my "custom" eating habits are atkins like, but I sub out foods with saturated fats for ones with non-saturated fats like edamame, nuts, etc.
That being said, I hope this new eating plan works, but at the end of the day "diets" are really a short term solution to a bigger problem. At some point in time you'll have to make a lifestyle change to make this permanent!
Good luck!
