I wish you the best of luck in your weight loss goals. Have you decided how you are going to try to lose the extra weight?

| Re: Hello!!!!!!! HI! Well I am a nurse. I don't have any specialty as it is, but I've been working in a ER for 3 years now. As it is, I haven't decided how I am going to loose weight, or what kind of program I am going to use. I was just thinking about lowering my daily calorie intake and making some exercises. However, if you have some tips, I will appreciate them. Thanks!

Lowering your caloric intake and exercising are the two best ways to achieve your desired results. No special programs, pills, etc are needed
Once you decide how fast you want to lose the weight, you can then adjust your eating/exercise schedule accordingly to give you the caloric deficit needed to achieve that weight loss goal in the timeframe you choose. Sounds easy, yes?

I am studying and working full time and with all the stress and anxiety it brings, my apetite seems to be increasing! My worst fear is gaining instead of loosing those pounds. :eek4:
What about you? How do you "feed" your will power?

What about you? How do you "feed" your will power? | For me willpower takes motivation. I motivate myself by finding someone else to exercise with (a partner). I know others find a friend to lose weight with just with eating alone. I have gone so far as to put a picture of me looking my worst next to a picture of me looking my best on the refridgerator. That keeps me from going in for that extra bite to eat that I don't need.
It's also a lot easier to have willpower at home when you are only buying healthy groceries. If the bad food isn't there, you can't eat it.

What about you? How do you "feed" your will power? | What are you studying? I feel your pain as I am studying for certifications and working full time, and I sit in front of a computer 12 hours a day. It's so easy just to eat and eat and eat. I have a partner who I work out with and compete with so to speak to lose the most weight. That helps us keep each other motivated. I also set goals for myself, and write down what I need to do each day between eating and exercise, and that helps me stick to what I need to do because I can see it right in front of me.

| Re: Hello!!!!!!! Hi! Thank you very much for replying to my message. Well, I am studying for the NCLEX exam, that's an exam for nurses who want to work in the US. It's a bit complicated because its questions are meant to be answered by the book, they can't be answerd with what you do in a hospital!!! Anyway... I really get very anxious about it and with so little free time I cant exercise either. I am trying to start a diet but I really can't!!!

I'm very familiar with the NCLEX. Our member Yuliyasha is taking it in September. That book is huge! You can just do bicep curls with that thing and build some serious muscle!
Why can't you create a healthier diet for yourself? Eating healthy shouldn't take that much more time out of your day. I remember studying about 300 total hours for the CPA exam while working 60hrs a week, and as hard as it was, I ate healthy and went to the gym at least 3 times a week for 2hrs at a time. Yeah I got very little sleep, but i guess my point is if you want something bad enough, you'll do what it takes to make it happen. Can you prep food the night before to take to work? You have to go grocery shopping regardless, and if you don't buy unhealthy food at the store, you're not going to be eating it at home .gif)

We love our health professionals, and thank you for being a nurse, we need so many more of you!
Do the NCLEX exam and US nursing laws apply to Puerto Rico? Are you already a nurse? I thought the NCLEX had to be taken before one could officially be a nurse?
Are you really that pressed for time that you don't have time to go grocery shopping and make your own food ahead of time?

I think I am going to go shopping today!that's true too... about not buying junk stuff, that way you are not going to eat it or have the temptation to do it!
And... in Puerto Rico, things are a bit different than there in the US. I am a nurse with a PR license, but if I want to work in the US we have to take the NCLEX. I heard it is something to do with our exam being in Spanish. I don't really know. Anyway, I am going to make a schedule so I can go to the gym, study, work, have a social life... ha ha ha... everything counts! right!? Have a wonderful day!

that is what we are here for so talk away! i look at it that there is always room for improvement and it is hard to do it all at once so i take one step at a time, become comfortable with it and move to another step. others can make multiple drastic changes but i have a tough time with that. it overloads the few brain cells i have left.

That is one of the best ways to go. Shop for yourself and make your own food. That way you are in control and know what you are eating at all times. I prep my food the night before sometimes so in case I'm running late in the morning I'll still be OK. Making a schedule is also a great idea! You'll be more likely to stick to something if it's in a schedule. In the end it's all about will power, but it doesn't hurt to make it easier to say no.

I just get the healthiest thing on the menu. I also always have protein bars, protein shakes, beef jerky, and other healthy foods at my desk at all times, because you never know.

I do this to. For me it's a must, espcecially if I know I have to go out for lunch, I'll fill up on the healthy stuff and won't eat as much of the restaurant food. Saves money and calories!
