| Hello Hope I can join you
I'll start by introducing myself...Priscilla, 32 yrs of age, stay-at-home-mom of 3 great kids (6, 2 and 8 months).
I've been hesitating to post, I'm a bit shy. But I've been reading this forum yesterday and thought that it's great.
I've been overweight basically all my life, but mostly when I hit puberty. I've dieted over and over again, and the most I've lost in all those years were 29 pounds, but gained it all back again and then some.
Yesterday, when I woke up, I decided to step up on the scale, something I haven't done in a while. I had a feeling I gained weight, but I was amazed yet troubled to see how much! Terrible.
I've decided then and now, that was it I had to do something about it.
I've looked throught the internet to see if I'd find tips on how to do it. I hate to count calories, I tried that and it discouraged me more than keep motivated....so for now, I decided to start "easy", by watching my portions, cook and eat healthy foods as much as possible, no more deep frying, no more cooking in real butter, cut the fat as much as possible. Change my soda to diet (that one's easy), cut down on carbs AND eat only when I feel real hunger...not when I have simple "cravings". Eat 3 meals a day, some snacks if I feel hungry (you know growling of the stomach and all ) and of course to move, move, move.
I bought a stationnary bike 3 weeks ago and I'll buy an MP4 player too in a couple days. Those two combined should keep me motivated and moving!
And I read about (what I think is a new way to exercise) HIIT and that really got my attention. I'd like to try that out.
So there! I'm not gonna elaborate and take more of your time, but I wanted to share this bit of info with you, thought it would be a good way to introduce myself

My oldest and youngest ones are girls, middle one's a boy.
It's also how I feel, I wanna do this for me of course, but also for my kids. I want to play, run and have fun with them, instead of sitting and watching from afar. I don't want them to be made fun of by peers because of me either.
My oldest daughter who never ever mentionned my weight before has been starting to a couple of months ago. I wonder if she actually "noticed" or if people have been "telling" her, you know. And that made me cry....never thought my weight would actually make me cry one day.
Thanks for the tip, I will sneak a peak at those recipes for sure

Oh yeah, welcome ! No reason to be shy around us, we're the nicest group you'll find on the internet!!! | Thank you for the info on diet soda, makes a lot of sense. The 15 lbs a year really hit me! Wow! :eek4:
Other than soda, I rarely crave sweets, I don't have much of a sweet tooth. Cakes and cookies, chocolate and candies are not really my thing. Oh once in a while I do have some, but I rather eat chips and fries and all that salty and fatty stuff instead. But your info is very useful and I will keep that in mind when I get thirsty....besides water is sooooo much a better beverage, I should drink more of it (it's part of my plan). And I'm sure it helps a great deal in weight loss.

On a side note to the above suggestion, I was doing that and somehow broke into "the Carlton dance" and my wife walked in. I had my headphones on but pretty sure she called me a term that rhymes with hag and shook her head and walked out.
NOT NICE!

NOT NICE! | Funny you mentioned that. I had just gotten new up tempo/dance music on my computer and have been dancing around with the kids for the passed 3 days. We're having tons of fun! They love it!
And thanks for the funny anecdote, I'm picturing it and litterally laughing out loud....my husband does that all the time, and it cracks me up...I should join in next time instead

Dancing is a great activity that will be with them for life. Get them interested early and they'll want to learn to dance, instead of them never doing it and being too embarrassed to get started.

| Re: Hello First of all, I can't believe I'm even posting this....but here it goes. I started out at 329 lbs. Big, way out of shape and depressed. I had left my state job and accepted a position at Wal-Mart. I know you're thinking I'm a fool, but I needed something close to home because of my husband's declining health. I started out as a cashier....on my feet 8 hrs a day!!! I thought I was going to die the first few weeks. I hurt so bad after my shift, I couldn't even step up to get in my truck after work. But I was getting ALOT of exercises, like 8 hrs a day. Ringing up purchases, putting them in bags and loading the bags in the carts. Lifting cases of sodas, water, etc. I also started drinking alot of water every day. The next thing I knew, I had lost 30 lbs!!! I started feeling pretty damn good. As of now, I'm now in the pharmacy, i've lost 53 lbs. and I have tons of energy. I'm down to 276, it seems like alot to you guys, but my goal is now a reality. Keeping my sugar at a healthy level and getting my thyroid to normal has had a big part in this too. If I can do it, anybody can do it!!

I know from personal experience how much work wal-mart is I worked third shift stocking in grocery for over a year, and when I first started I weighed 250 lbs and worked ten hour shifts...I was cripled with pain, and literally just sat with my feet up on my days off. Then my husband forced me to buy myself a pair of Nike shocks...they were the best thing my feet could have ever asked for. I have recommended them to any heavier people I come across...An absolute godsend!
