| Greetings Hi all--
I'm a 30 year old mom of 2 small children. I been fat all my life. I have a lot of health problems. I need to lose weight once and for all, period. I was considering weight loss surgery but my husband "persuaded" me to give diet and exercise one more try first.
I have embarked on a low calorie liquid diet which I hope to sustain for 2 weeks before weaning myself back on to small, 3-400 calorie meals.
My problem is mainly that I hate food preparation and I have a lack of imagination where food choices are concerned. So I end up eating fast food, microwave meals, sandwiches, etc. Stuff I can just throw together in 5 mins or less and eat on the fly.
I also have some emotional attachments to eating out or getting treats while I'm out. It was always my big "let's do something special" thing. It's hard not to stop and get something when I am out shopping or whatever.
Anyway that's me. I hope not to whine around here too much

Welcome to the crew! When you say liquid diet, do you mean liquid protein diet? What exactly are you consuming?
Half of my meals consist of microwaveable foods and sandwiches, and there are plenty of healthy options there.
As far as imagination goes, have you tried fishing through some healthy recipes?

| Re: Greetings I'm doing protein shakes and vitamins (a multi-vitamin pack with fish oils and minerals). I'm using the Bio-Test shakes. They consist of micellar casein & whey protein isolate mixed. I'm currently mixing half low carb half complete because I don't want to go *too* low carb.
A lot of my lack of imagination with food revolves around having to provide meals for the family, and my husband is a notoriously picky eater. If I cook, there's a 50/50 chance he just won't eat it, and will go hungry or eat something else. He will always eat fast food, or a pizza, or something like that, so I stopped trying to cook so much and just relied on those things. I stopped thinking about varieties of foods and how to be creative.
I have to really abandon the idea of cooking for him, I guess. I am open to a huge variety of foods so there's no reason why I can't come up with healthy foods to eat on a daily basis.... I just need to get the ambition together to try new recipes

I'm picky too. People gave up cooking for me and I ended up making my own things. Try not to let others' eating habits drag you down. That's something a lot of people struggle with. Unfortunately, you can't be too lazy while trying to lose weight. There is a slight time commitment required. Just gotta make it enough of a priority.

If you know you're going to go out, have a nice meal at home before you go and drink a lot of water.....that should help prevent you from wanting to eat out so much.

i don't see why you should have to suffer because hubby is picky. if he wants fast food, fine, but none for you. i say keep on cooking, and once he sees you dropping pounds he may change his tune. eating healthy does rub off on others, just as his eating bad has been rubbing off on you.

I understand about cooking for people who are picky. My husband will eat what I cook if it is something he already likes. He won't try new things. I have three grown kids. When they were young, 2 of the three only ate pizza, peanut butter, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese etc. So between the kids and my husband, I kind of gave up for a while. I love salads and vegetables but they wouldn't touch them. I have now started cooking things that I like and that fit into the healthy category. It's good you aren't waiting as long as I did to start to get healthy. Keep up the good work, you can do it! |
