Anothew Newbie...

Hello all!! Well, like so many others I'm new to the forum and decided that this is the year that I'm actually going to lose weight. For years I maintained my weight at about 230 and worked out regularly. Plus believe it or not, I actually ate well (at least much better than I do now). Then I met the woman who would eventually become my wife. I guess I got too comfortable. I started eating fast food all the time and stopped working out completely. Even after I joined a gym, I wasn't committed enough to lose the weight. So now I look at myself and wonder what happened. Part of my problem is that I have always seen myself by my residual self image or the way I mentally visualize myself. Even though I was gaining weight, I only saw how I used to look. It's kind of weird, and I still do it to this day. When I look in the mirror everyday I see myself as 'not that bad' and someone who can easily lose the weight. Then I'll see myself in a picture, and think 'Is that how I really look?' My other issue is what I eat. Although I don't eat much fast food anymore, I wouldn't exactly say that I eat healthy. My job supplies meals (I work evenings), but they are usually loaded with lots of fats and carbs. Then of course there is the soft serve Edy's Ice Cream machine they have. It's an evil place...lol.

So I've decided to finally make the change. I have the exercise equipment I need in my home, and a large dog that needs to be walked a lot more than I walk her now. I just need to figure out a way to eat better when I'm at work. My wife doesn't cook very much, so I would like to find something I can easily make that taste great, are healthy, and can be maintain a life in the fridge for a few days.

Besides what's stated above, I'm also looking for some support from everyone and will give as much support back as I can.

Thanks in advance!

Joe

Pasta is quite a good thing to start with. Just dont eat tons of it as it is high in carbohydrates.

Yeah, I've done the pasta thing. It's easy to make but gets a little boring after a while.

Hi Big Joe and welcome!! I bring my food to work every day.

I make sandwiches with deli-meats and low sugar/calorie dressings. I also cook chicken breast strips and make healthy chicken breast burritos with low fat cheeses, hot sauce, and low net carb whole wheat tortillas. I also pre-cook lean ground beef premade hamburger patties, as well as lean ground beef taco meat and bring that too. South Beach has a few decent food options...healthy frozen pizzas and other frozen meals, as well as boxed lunches, all of which are low in net carbs and high in protein. I also bring a lot of healthy snacks as well, including low fat string cheese, fruit, veges, etc.
