| Another Fat Boy on the sit! Hello all, FB here. I'm 51 years old, 6'2" and weigh in at 310, I'll have to set up that cool scale you all have.
I quit smoking 100 days ago and I believe it's the forum I joined that helped me so much, so here I am. I think sometimes being with others of the same can help.
You have permission to kick my @SS if I confess of falling off and keep me going. I have been walking 2 miles most days, but with fall around the corner, I'm concerned I'll back off when the rain sets in (North West).
I am on Weight Watchers and started before I quit so I would have a few pounds off, it worked I lost 25 pounds before I quit and have gained 10 back, so I was at 325 and a smoker, yep death around the corner.
If anyone wants some pointers on smoking, I'll help if I can, all I can say is after 35 years of smoking, I now free and clear!
I hope I can offer support to others in need and hope to learn some new stuff on here.
Thanks for having me...
RB

I bet you will continue to feel better as time goes on since you stopped smoking!
Is there any way you can join a gym so you dont have to exercise in the rain?
Dont worry about falling off the wagon, we'll keep you in line!

RB | Great start dropping the cigs, that was one of the best things you could have done for yourself.
NW, must be Washington? It rains a ton up there in the winter/fall. I don't know how you deal with it. Any chance of getting exercise equipment in your house or getting a gym membership? If you're looking to commit to exercise you can't let a little rain get in your way.
The hardest part about quitting and weight loss is overcoming the appetite suppressant effect smoking has, which could be why you put on a few pounds after quitting.
Keep up the walking for sure, and upping the pace/lengthening the walk as you become comfortable.
As far as eating goes, have you figured out a plan of attack?

I'm an ex-smoker myself. I quit 13 years ago and believe I would be dead now if I had not quit. |

A couple of challenges I have, but don't we all.
I am a CU(Bank Rep) and I'm on the road most of the time, much of that time is entertaining clients. Not easy to do, but I know it can be done. I collect wine, but don't drink a bunch of it, the wife and I normally open a bottle on Friday night. So in a nut shell, I drive a lot, must eat 20 to 30 meals a month in a restaurant.
I know what to do, but have to do it when I'm on the road. Working out on the road these days are pretty easy as most of the places I stay have nice work out areas.
As far as home, we do have a treadmill and I just got back into playing drums and the I've been playing 45 minutes to an hour every night when I'm home.
I don't believe there are any secrets to the game, simply put, I have to do it. I have to live it and change the patterns and habits I have developed over the years.
So, there you have it.

| Re: Another Fat Boy on the sit! hello FB, I am new here too. I need to quit smoking, I dont know how to go about it really. I enjoy doing it too much I think. I quit for 3 months last year, then I woke up one day said to heck with it, and bought a pack. sigh hubby was in Afghanistan, I had the kids all to myself all the time, everywhere. plus all the responsibility of the household after being used to 50/50 work load. So that coulda been my breaker. I quit a couple weeks after he left, even my dentist said I picked the worst time to quit LOL.
So any tips (my hubby smokes too, but I dont think he's ready to quit.)?

| Re: Another Fat Boy on the sit! First, Mike it is clear that you are on the ball. I think anyone can do it, but you have to take the first step in anything.
OK, athenamor on the smoking. First I wanted to quit, I set a date 6 months before I did and worked toward it. I started doing some studying on success and what was working. I then found out about Chantix which is a new stop smoking aid, some say magic, but I don't. It is still hard, but it does help a lot. If you can quit and your husband still smokes around you, more power to you. If he doesn't want to quit or you don't want to quit, you probably won't. I knew I needed to, but didn't really want to until this time, so I'm sure that has a bunch to do with the success. I would say this, I quit in May and I still don't consider myself a non smoker, I'm just a butt away from being a smoker again. I'm kind of looking at it as a 12 step, I will always be a smoker, I'm just not choosing to smoke now. I will say, it is and was the hardest thing I have ever done was stop...
Good luck, check out their web site and if you think it will help, call your Dr and see if you can get it.

RB | travelling and entertaining clients is very difficult. i know OD can attest to this as he travels all the time for work if i remember.
one of his secrets is to bring protein bars and other portable health foods including protein bars and protein shakes with him, so he can fill up on that instead of restaurant food.
