| Positive changes from losing weight?
I know we had one of these threads a while back but I couldn't find it so I figured I'd start a new one. Post some positive reasons for losing weight lets see how much we can think of.
People treat you differently:
So I was at the bank today and the teller was flirting with me. That always makes my day. I don't know maybe she does that with everyone who walks in (I mean it is customer service) but she has done the same the last couple of times I've been in there. I have a feeling she wouldn't have even considered flirting for a second a year ago. That just made me think of how people treat me now it's probably about the biggest change I've seen. I went to Panera today for lunch and they gave me a free cookie for no reason another thing that I just doubt would have happened back then (not that I would have needed it ).
Any other good changes we should see as we get closer to our goals?

Just having more of those 'happy' moments is worth the effort!
For me it's mostly just the feeling better...moving better. Any compliments I get are the icing on the cake.
And as we all know - appearances count...you just get that wee bit more respect from people when you look good - and it's nice to have.

Oh here's another laundry is easier when you have smaller clothes you can put more in a single load.

My attitude about myself has changed. I feel good and I feel in control. I have more energy and therefore more active and willing to go on a walk, take the kid to the park and let him ride his bike.
I love cooking. I cook dinner about 5x a week now, as opposed to maybe 2-3. I wake up feeling much more refreshed. I am in a smaller size and it feels WONDERFUL to put the old clothes in the charity bin to never have to shop that size AGAIN!
AND I can fit in the rocking chair in our family room w/o my butt squeezing through the bars.

Buying clothes from the REGULAR section at stores!!!!!!! That's my favorite.
Being able to buy healthier/organic foods because even though they are more expensive, you aren't eating as much and it actually turns out to be less. I remember using the excuse that I didn't eat healthy because it was too expensive. Boy was I fishing for excuses!!!!
I'm sure there are many more...

For me I feel so much more confident in myself. I love going shopping now in fact probably way too much lol but that's a good thing.

Yesterday I climbed a 1400 ft peak and canoed 2.5 miles. I wouldn't have been able to do either activity when I was obese. To me the most positive change has been that I am FREE to do what I want.

I want to lose weight because I want to live the rest of my life with quality. I see very little quality ahead of me if I continue to live life as an obese person. It's my choice. I can stuff my face with food or I can stuff my life with living. |

Yes, if we're allowed to say sex is better, I agree 100%.

| Re: Positive changes from losing weight?
I've had a similar experience to the OP, except it was a person I had interacted with several times before in a store, I went back recently and saw them but they didn't recognize or remember me after I dropped some weight, and I was surprised to see the change in attitude. That said, should we really feel good about people treating us better or flirting with us when they might not have 50 pounds ago? Doesn't that just reveal that they're the kind of person who wouldn't give a fat person the time of day? To me that just reinforces how society gets away with discriminating against the overweight.
That said.. other than the obvious health benefits, i've just felt more agile and young again since I started losing weight. I've been able to pick up old activities like Skateboarding & Hacky sacking that I once thought i'd never do again, which will in turn help me lose more weight. As someone said above, being able to shop for clothes in 'normal' stores again is an achievement. Last but not least, sex is naturally better when you don't have as much of a gut getting in the way of things.

I have lost less that a third of what I need to lose, but people keep telling me how good I look and that is very nice to hear.

My son unexpectedly started introducing me to his friends as his "Six Pack Dad". He's really taken to eating better and wants to go jogging with me sometimes too (completely on his own). So the "role-model" effect has been definitely positive.
