| newly discovered foods This may seem silly to many of you, but I decided to post it anyway, just in case.
I don't know how we have managed to miss these foods in the past, but my husband and I have recently discovered poblano peppers. If you havent tried them before, look for them in your store and pick one up. They have a wonderful flavor, and go so well with so many things! They are not hot, just one step up from a bell pepper.
We have also been eating a lot of ground turkey. My husband and I stopped buying beef a handful of months ago, and have found that ground turkey is better than ground beef, and can be used for anything ground beef would have been used for.
Try making turkey patties with sauted poblano peppers and onions. Its really good!
I am sure there are more foods that I will discover as I change my eating habits. These foods might be common for most people, but around the area that I live in, they are not common at all. We often times have to ask for the ground turkey to be ordered at the store, and we buy it a case at a time.
If you have discovered a healthy food that others might be missing, please post about it so that I can look for it.

| Re: newly discovered foods Ground turkey is pretty good! My mother substituted it for ground beef when cooking for my family years ago. I've been on a roasted red pepper kick myself lately. I still use ground beef though, but only the 96% lean kind. Buffalo is pretty lean too. Other odd but good foods I've been munching on: smoked salmon, nuts (in moderation), light string cheese, lump crab meat, whole wheat low carb tortillas (with any favorite filling), and tuna in a can....

| Re: newly discovered foods I should look into the buffalo meat. I have had it before, but it was ages ago.
I like to make fried rice with brown rice. If you rinse the rice before you cook it, and then let it set in the fridge overnight, it makes great fried rice with veggies in it.
I also like to make mexican pizzas. I make dough with whole wheat flour, and ground turkey with taco seasonings in it is very tasty. Then you can pile it high with veggies and a bit of lowfat cheese.
I havent ever been a big veggie eater, and I am finding new ways to make them taste better. I used to eat sweet potatoes with lots of brown sugar and butter mixed in with it. Instead of sugar and butter, I now use just a little bit of olive oil, and a packet of onion soup mix. Sweet potatoes and squash and zucchini...lots of veggies are good that way! Just mix the soup mix with the olive oil, coat the veggies and bake till tender. Gets rid of the sugar, and makes the hard to like veggies easier for me to like.
I hope these things will give some others ideas for new meals.
