Jogging-how long? Sometimes I really enjoy jogging. It is great simply to run away from everything and to think about different things and the positive effect is that you also do something good for your body. But relating to jogging as a workout-how long do you think should I run? Twenty minutes, half an hour or even an hour? I have heard that you won't burn any fat if you are running less than one hour. Do you know if this is true?

I could be completely wrong though.

I wouldn't bother exercising for anything less than 30 minutes myself.

Re: Jogging-how long? So would you say that exercising less than twenty to thirthy minutes doesn't make sense at all? Or is it usefull anyways? I could imagine that there are many people who don't have so much time for sports and just do some pilates or stuff like that for 15 minutes. Would you say that it is for the birds?

Even a little exercise is better than none

That's one reason HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is so popular. Studies have shown that 20 minutes of HIIT burns more fat than 60 minutes of a steady paced cardio. Sometimes quality of exercise beats quantity.

Re: Jogging-how long? So then for example would you say that it is better for the fat burning process to run quite slow instead of fast? I mean if you have the distance of 2 miles you might run very fast and get it done in less than 20 minutes. But if you run more slowly it will take more time and so you will run more than 20 minutes. Then you would need maybe something like half an hour. Does this mean that you will burn more fat? It is the same distance! It is just a different celerity!

What you're looking to do is burn calories, a.k.a. fat. I would look at it as not running a set distance and choosing how fast to run it, but instead running as fast as I can for as long as I can......if that makes sense. If you exercise slowly (when you physically can go much faster than that), you're not going to improve your stamina and cardiovascular system nearly as much compared to if you pushed yourself. By pushing yourself you'll allow yourself to run further and further distances, which in turn translate to you being able to run fast for a longer period of time, and hense burn the maximum calories.
OK, I think I confused myself. .gif)

| Re: Jogging-how long? The key to HIIT is to go all out for 30 seconds then walk/jog for 1.5 minutes for at least 10 cycles to 15 cycles max.
Don't forget you can do this on a bike as well. I do this at my son's wrestling practice where they have Schwinn Aerodyne bikes
I'm looking to get one of these for my house. I have never had a better leg/quad workout than on this bike, I burn around 250 calories in 20 minutes on it doing the HIIT.

Re: Jogging-how long? Yeah it was kind of confusing but I guess I understood what you wanted to say and it also makes sense. :-) So I would really like to run a little longer every day but I am not sure if I am fit enough for this. Do you think it would be okay to run for a certain period of time, then walk a little bit, run again and so on. Or would you say that it is better for your body to run the whole time?
