| How do I attempt bariatric process? What exactly do I need to do to get the process started to get the lap-band surgery? I have Medicare and Medicaid, so it will be covered, I just have no idea where to start.
Do I call my doctor's office and make an appt. saying 'I'm fat and I want surgery!" ??
I'd love to hear from anyone who has been or is going through the process so I can figure out how to START. Do you have to be on some kind of weight loss program thru the dr. already?
HELP!
thanks!

Well, I figure if it was that easy, everyone would be fit and thin. I've done the calorie/eat right/exercise thing and I GAINED weight. That's why I'm at my wits end with this weight thing. I went from 129lbs. to 277 now and I don't know what else to do.

We try to encourage people to try to lose weight through healthy eating and exercise first, and to only resort to costly means like surgery as a last ditch effort.
Have you considered seeing a doctor to make sure there's nothing else causing your weight gain (underactive thyroid)? I'd hate for you to go through the rigors of weight loss surgery when something else could be causing your weight gain. All weight loss surgery is going to do is reduce the amount of calories you are going to want to take into your system. However if you already PROPERLY reduced the calories your body took in by creating a calorie deficit through better eating and exercise and it didn't work, obesity surgery won't work for you.

Take a look back a few years when humans didn't rely on our current self-prevalence and lived off the land: because food sources with saturated fats, salt and the like were hard to find and rare we had/have an increased craving for them in order to force us to go the extra effort to find these food sources, because the right amounts of them are essential. Now, that worked all well and right back then, but when culture and society brought the food to us, it just really fucked things up.
Does it really make sense that your cravings would lead you to endanger your life..? I don't see any obese animals in nature; it's a man-made problem that requires a man-made solution.
You may feel swayed by harsh words such as Quote: |
Instead of starting that process, start the process of counting calories, eating right and working out. If my father who is 63 can do it, you can too...
| but perhaps whoever wrote this doesn't realise that different people lose weight in different ways; perhaps his 63 year old father has a higher metabolic rate than you, there are also many diseases out there that can make it difficult for an individual to lose weight.
Just because somebody else can lose weight more easily than you doesn't give them the right to be insulting or demeaning towards you. You've clearly tried losing weight the old fashioned way and it hasn't helped. Talk to your doctor and ask him if getting surgery is suitable for you.

| Re: How do I attempt bariatric process? Having the surgery wont work if You DON"T learn to eat right. And losing weight ISN"T easy, no one ever said it was. It takes self control and determination. Anyone can do it if/when they decide that it is what they really want. But they have to work hard at it and live it for the rest of their lives. I have heard many stories from people that had the surgery and lost ALOT of weight only to gain it all back plus more because they DIDN'T learn the right way to eat and they DIDN'T exercise and they DIDN'T deal with whatever caused them to eat either the emotional eating or the bored eating or just plain loving food. For me surgery will never be the answer and even if I wanted it Insurance won't cover it and my Doctor won't do it because my weight is no longer affecting my health in a dangerous way. Other than my joints aching and sleep apnea it never really has affected my health. It was the kinds of foods I used to eat that was affecting my health.

blahlbahblah | Yes, if patients who have had GBS wish to keep off their lost weight they will have to make great adjustments to their diet and exercise regime. But it's easier to maintain weight than it is to lose it, making this an easier, and depending on just how obese you are, a safer method to take. Quote: Quote: |

| wtf does that have to do with what you quoted ?_? I said it wasn't kmodek's fault for being over weight. Learn to read.
