Apparently it was his producers car and he was driving it on a race track to promote a movie. These cars initially sold for $660,000, but only 400 were made ever, and many of them have been crashed already. Market value is well over $1.5 Million dollars now, as these are collectors items.

I think this was answered above. Collectors will pay a lot of money for something rare.
